Uk Affairs - Sterling is taking a Pounding

Some move bringing the Gover back into cabinet.

What is all this shite forever on here about Gove… He is a cocaine-snorting weirdo, a Protestant supremacist and an Empire apologist, someone who came out of the hard right surround.

He’s seen here as kind of a Machiavellian Superfixer, orchestrating heaves against those whom he doesn’t trust in the background. A kind of a Pooka figure. The Levelling up* portfolio was possibly created for him.

  • I haven’t a breeze what said portfolio is supposed to accomplish.

Starmer got some pounding today in PMQ, he’s stone useless

I – kind of – get that take. But…

Gove is just another right wing breeze block, as opposed to the slightly lower form that is a right wing concrete block.

I don’t think boxty disagrees. Gove is like that squeaky idiot Michael McIntyre. He’s never actually done anything much of note but somehow seems to have morphed into Kaiser Souzer.

Oh, I know Boxty fully agrees.

The day Gove became the ā€˜evil genius’ of the Tories was nadir indeed. This clown all but brought about Andrea Leadsom as Prime Minister. He got Brexit wrong, thinking they would lose by a few percentage points, and still has not held one of the top jobs. He is on the same side as sundry headbangers and nutters. Suella Braverman, for fuck’s sake, held – and now holds again – a higher position than Gove ever reached. Ditto for Nadhim Zahawi and all the other nutsos.

Suella will be gone by next PMQs

Hopefully.

Sunak is a nervy technocrat with no feel for communication. Suited to being Chancellor but his judgement of people seems none too sound, on previous form. Restoring the odious and vacuous Gavin ā€˜Tarantula’ Williamson counts as another big mistake.

Getting rid of people such as David Gauke and Dominic Grieve is ever more apparent as a catastrophic mistake. DG would probably have their been best option as leader after David Cameron – bar the referendum-unleashed madness.

There must be some sex dirt on Ben Wallace, since he baulked twice at taking on a fence he would likely have sailed over.

That and making Rabb his effective No2 is a bizarre appointment

She won’t . Her appointment was to appease the erg.

I agree. Another dim bulb, without any doubt. And someone else who has gone higher than Gove, of course.

But I can at least see why Sunak, however mistakenly, would want Raab there.

True enough. But the ERG just got their wings clipped by Mary Truss’ antics. Their power might be going the way of a January balloon.

Quentin Letts was on Times radio this morning and effectively said she is as thick as pigshit but is there to appease the membership.

The immigration issue is currently well down the priority list. However to the hard line brexiteers its their number one issue. Let Braverman do all the shouting and roaring she wants, maybe even get some bit of success. Its small change compared to whats coming from a fiscal perspective but will act as a distraction to the likes of Mogg and Francois. The last thing Hunt and Sunak need is the ERG getting involved in the bigger decisions

Appease the membership that couldn’t stomach Rishi over Blonde Lizz day one?

Yeah. She’ll talk shit about immigration and policing and do fuck all. A poor mans Priti Patel.

Spot on, Mike.

Super smart move. Raab can never become leader as he’s electorally toxic but will fight in his back to keep power.

Pure Harmless. He can work away with Bravermann on the new human rights bill. Let the adults get on with it
