Unlike the Tories who failed to hold Finchley in the 1997 meltdown, Labour hold Sedgefield. Interesting to see Labour hold off Plaid Cymru in Ynys Mon and also hold off the Tories in Vale of Clwyd. Arfon has been lost by Labour to Plaid Cymru.
Bridget Phillipson the first one elected in Sunderland would get my vote. Sheâs only 26. And sheâs a Taig.
Some changes in the odds on Powers. When I looked at around 10 a majority was at 11/4. I looked 15 mins ago it was 1/2 and now its gone to 4/6. Iâd say they donât know what the fuck theyâre at.
Theyâve been hopelessly wrong on elections before. Throw a tenner on yourself and youâll move the market a couple of points.
Stuck 20 on hung parliament (ie no one gets 326 seats) at 11-10 five mins ago. Itâs now 8-11 with Tories at evens!
Peter Robinson gone (ho ho ho) and Gerry Adams increases his majority, well done Gerry.
I see Trevor Ringland came third in Robinsons electorate. Sorry, Robinsonâs former electorate.
Nightmare scenario looking possible at this stage ie Tories falling short of a majority and using DUP support to form a government. Two party leaders will lose their jobs after this anyway and Iâm not talking about Gordon Brown.
Just over halfway through.
At 4:15:
Tory 164
Lab 122
Lib Dem 26
Others 31
Declared so far 343 of 651
Looks to me like the Tories will end up somewhere between 305-320.
Just what we all feared - the DUP having a say in things
Fascinating stuff. Even though Lib Dems have had a poor night they are in strong position now with regard to negotiations. Well done Greens and Lucas!
and three ugly dogs as well. Some horrible looking creatures standing for labour
Thatâs what the postal votes are for
Tories trying to pile the pressure on Brown in the hope that heâll be seen as unviable and wonât try and form a government with Lib Dems. Heard Portillo on RTĂ this morning saying that you canât have a government formed by two parties who have lost seats. Of course you can Michael.
I guess a Tory minority government still looks most likely.
Those maps of Britain are crazy where they show where the blue-red divide is. Mad how concentrated the votes are in the urban/rural divide.
Fair fucks to Caroline Lucas too - won me a few quid anyway.
Murdoch media will go into overdrive now trying to discredit Lib Lab coalition. All too influential I fear
Tough luck Cameron. Close to an outright win but not close enoughâŚ
He was close to being the man but as we all knowâŚ
What were the odds on David Miliband being the Prime Minister after this election? Anybody know?
very big sid
it would indeed be most unparliamentary and unusual for a party to switch leaders post an election to get into power.
Itâs possible it could happen.
Itâs an untenable position
His party is not in the majority and he is only PM because their coalition partners refused to go into government with his original boss, thatâs who I see it anyway
A recipe for disaster sid
What is the legacy of New Labour in the UK. An era of spin certainly and teflon politicans. Cant think of too many reforms they instigated. Horrific over regulated school system.
The documentary series âThe Trapâ by Adam Curtis covers this very well. I think itâs in the the second episode out of 3.
