Unpopular opinions or views you hold

There is a perception of Liverpool fans that Alonso is a true red. Indeed he has promoted that persona speaking of his love for the club etc etc.

But the reality is:

  • He left Liverpool to join Real Madrid (strange as he is a Basque).
  • He shot down any possibility of taking the Liverpool job after Klopp deciding to wait for the Real Madrid job a year later
  • He has joined Chelsea as manager, a rival of Liverpool

Now you can say he was entitled to do all those things but don’t portray him as some sort of true red.

Who has portrayed Xabi Alonso as a ā€œtrue redā€?

The reality is Rafa wanted to get rid of him for Gareth Barry. It’s quite understandable he’d choose to leave for Real Madrid given they actually wanted him.

Alonso built a team with Leverkusen that broke the Bayern Munich strnagehold for the first time in 12 years. He was more than entitled to want at least one go in the Champions League with that team.

He was more than more entitled to believe coming in on the back of Klopp would be a poisoned chalice.

He was more than entitled to take the Real Madrid job.

And he’s more than entitled to not wait around for a club whose behind the scenes decision makers have disappeared up their own holes in the last year.

To be honest I respect him more for not waiting around.

Why do you see him as some sort of saviour for Liverpool then?

Like a hero coming home?

I’d say most Liverpool supporters looked at Xabi Alonso and thought: there’s a guy who has standout credentials as a potential great manager, he’s played for Liverpool, he was a great player for Liverpool, he’s available, he wants the job, the current manager is an obvious beaten docket, if Liverpool do have to sack Slot early next season there’s a serious chance of a descent into Manchester United style prolonged mediocrity, so, what should Liverpool do?

I’d say most Liverpool supporters thought the answer was obvious - appoint Alonso!

And Liverpool rejected him.

What do you think Liverpool should have done?

And what do you think Alonso should have done?

True red. Ah lads.

Were you not prattling on about the sanctity of the FA Cup two minutes ago?

I was. But a true red? What’s a true red?

It’s something a gobshite says. Be wary of that kind of carry-on. Have a right look in the mirror

Ahhh, I get you now

You’re a United fan and have no respect for the FA Cup. Thats a tough mirror you put up to yourself.

You’re right. The emotional weight of the FA Cup doesn’t trouble me greatly

Lolz

Why would a spanish professio al footballer stay at liverpool ahead of Real Madrid.

Why would a football manager not take the Chelsea job

Methink she doth protest far too much

To be fair I am slightly surprised Alonso didn’t take a job at a big club like Aberdeen over a diddy club like Chelsea.

He’s Basque mate.

I thought you of all people would recognise that.

As a basque it wouldn’t have sat well with Alonso that Liverpool’s owners have been financially backing the Israeli war machine.

You’ve just dodged 5 at the back with Kerkez and Frimpong bombing on.

Signings have killed Slott. Whoever signed Isak, Kerkez and Frimpong is the one who should go. Ekitike’s injury is very bad for lads coming back to former levels/forwards. Same one Callum Hudson-Odoi had.

These are facts

Aren’t Chelsea owned by yanks?

Because it’s been a graveyard for managerial reputations in recent years. This is their 6th permanent manager in the last 4 years.

I reckon the payoffs are the grandest
