US Politics - A Society in Meltdown

Why on earth would Republicans want to block bills that aim to protect the integrity of US elections?

That’s a rhetorical question, obviously.

To which I’ll still give the answer.

Because the Republicans don’t want legitimate elections, duh.

Hopelessly out of touch, eh.

If objecting to criminality, corruption and hostile foreign interference by a fascist like Putin is “hopelessly out of touch”, count me in.

These are all things you support.

Your ability to make yourself look stupid is unparalleled on this forum.

If the Democrats don’t uphold the rule of law, the rule of law ceases to mean anything and kleptocracy and fascism have free rein

But hey, “polls”

Trump really is unhinged. He just doesn’t understand how a justice system should work in a democracy.

You’re nothing if not predictable

As soon as Putin is mentioned in any sort of negative way, in you jump defending the honour of your hero

But as always, nothing of any substance from you

You’re peddling conspiracy theories buddy. Well deserving of a tinfoil hat. Do you think someone got in to Epsteins cell to kill him and the plan was to make it look like suicide. And Epstein somehow survived! That assassin would want to consider another career if that is the case.

The Epstein attempted suicide happened hours after The Daily Beast published this article clearly showing that Clinton lied (surprise!) in his recent statement about his connections, meetings, and many trips taken with Epstein and his alleged organizer in chief Ghislane Maxwell.

Now if one were prone to believing conspiracy theories…

I’m asking questions, buddy.

It would be very conveninent for a lot of people for Epstein to be dead.

Chief among them Trump.

Therefore, one should certainly keep an open mind.

Wouldn’t you agree?

Or would you disagree?

Will you even answer that?

That’s a hell of a lot different from peddling a conspiracy theory.

If you’re interested in conspiracy theories, which you appear to be, @anon7035031 is your man, as he’s just admitted to.

Nadler appears to be nudging towards impeachment

It can’t come a moment too soon

I’m with Alf on this one, if someone tried to kill Epstein they did a truly shit job, he wan’t even unconscious.

It was clearly either a botched suicide attempt or any attempt to get transferred out of his current prison cell. Your speculation is a conspiracy theory and completely implausible. If someone entered his cell to kill him he would be dead.

Em, you’ve just accused me of being a conspiracy theorist because I asked a question, stated some facts, and said I’d keep an open mind - while you simultaneously publicly admitted to being a conspiracy theorist yourself :laughing::laughing:

You absolute balloon

Why must you make this so easy

Meanwhile the US economy grew 2.1% in the second quarter while Europe has been at 0.4% growth for the past year and is likely now in contraction (based on recent German data). Trump’s message for 2020 will be very clear, do you want economic growth to continue or do you want to become stagnant like the EU.

Trump is laughing his hole off at Democrats, handing him win after win. Democrats threatening to pursue impeachment when only 20% of the country and only 39% of Democrats support it, and that was before Mueller’s testimony to Congress.

You suggested Trump tried to have Epstein killed, and failed. Even though only Epstein was in the cell and the attempt was clearly self inflicted.

Case closed, you are a complete loon.

How many people acccording to the polls supported Nixon’s impeachment before proceedings were launched, mate?

Was it right to impeach Nixon?

These are simple questions, answer them

You floated a conspiracy theory about Epstein’s apparent suicide attempt, bud, not me

I’m keeping an open mind

Then you floated a separate conspiracy theory, which you stated straight up was a conspiracy theory

So you floated two conspiracy theories to my none

You are a conspiracy theorist by your own admission, and you’re seeing conspiracy theorists everywhere despite there being none here apart from yourself

Did somebody post a picture of a tinfoil hat?

Christ, you’re thick

Nixon wasn’t impeached you loon, he resigned while impeachment proceedings were going on in the House.

Impeachment is very tricky, as you have to prove a “high crime or misdemeanor”. There are three cases to look at in recent history, which should help to inform your opinion. The simplest is Nixon where there was clear evidence he deliberately and willfully obstructed the investigation into the DNC break-in. Most people believe he would have been impeached and convicted by the Senate.

Bill Clinton lied to a grand jury and obstructed justice by instructing Monica Lewinsky to lie. He was impeached by the House but not one Democrat voted to convict him. The argument used was that his perjury and obstruction did not rise to the level of a “high crime and misdemeanor”.

In Trumps’s case there is evidence of attempts to obstruct, but no underlying crime (no evidence of a conspiracy). Mueller could not determine if there was a crime of obstruction. Republicans will not convict him as they will argue like Clinton his obstruction efforts do not rise to the level required for impeachment. It will be another victory for Trump.

You’re welcome for the lesson.

I didn’t, I believe Epstein tried to kill himself or tried to make it look like he killed himself.

Like you I believe there are many who would like Epstein dead, probably Trump does, but Bill Clinton who traveled all over the world and US with him for decades would be top of my list.
