I thought it was the other wigger that lives in Malaysia that dreamt that
It would seem that large amounts of the police forces in the States seem able to distinguish between criminal members and solid upstanding citizens of the white community but view the entire black community with suspicion.
No it was Glas. He captured the racism of society perfectly here on his trip.
I’m surprised the Singapore lad chooses to live there given how fucked up the treatment of certain migrants is.
Just because there are huge issues with and within black communities doesn’t excuse, explain or legitimise police brutality towards that community. To be honest it comes across as complete whataboutery
The LAPD have improved a lot from back in the day.
It isn’t excusing it, it’s making a point.
One weekend of killings in one city. The issue is far greater and far more grave, and it is down to poor governance and institutionalised racism.
The Feds😀.Jesus Christ.
I’m not sure - I think there’s a totally different culture of policing there which is hugely confrontational.
Clearly in many cases, at an individual and a unit level, they are not in control of their emotions/actions either. They react unpredictably, aggressively and often illegally. Add weaponry designed for the battlefield (and often purchases from the US army) and it’s a fairly potent mix
That’s good to hear - and I’d say they had a lot to improve. From looking at videos a lot of other police forces need to go through the same journey
Some difference between the videos of cops in action between the States and Salthill this week.
Of course its a hell of a lot easier to guard the peace when the people you are serving and protecting can’t go around legally wielding firearms they bought at the supermarket.
I admire people like @Thomas_Brady who used to volunteer to help out travellers with homework etc. The key to narrowing that divide is education, education, education. Both ways.
I have to concede that I am not without prejudice when I look at travellers. Yes - the travelling community doesn’t help themselves but discrimination can never be justified.
And if there are cops engaging in it, while they are only human, it’s still wrong.
Do you need to have been on a J1 to comment here?
Well start with acknowledging the huge ongoing issue within police forces across the country and fix it. You’ve explained how it could be done in LA so it’s achievable. The only thing stopping it is what appears to be the utter refusal of the police forces themselves and large chunks of the political system to even accept there is a problem.
I’ve never been to America del Norte and went for broke here. Now that I’ve done my 5K I needed to move on to another topic.
I’ve been in America a good few times. I know what I am talking about
No, just to prove that you are better qualified to comment. If you lived in Chicago that is the gold standard and you win the debate no matter how dumb your “points” are.
Policing, especially in the US, is a huge business and this rioting is going to be great for business. They are a hugely militarised police force (and that’s a general term covering the disparate forces there). You see it in Britain, here, many countries, but we’re all playing catch up with the US.
Much in the same way incarceration is a huge business in the US, with a disproportionate percentage of the population in prison, a hugely disproportionate number of which are black (much like Australia).
We had (and have) the millitary / industrial complex. We now also have the Policing / Commercial nexus.
These riots are great for business. Next week another white policeman will kill another unarmed black man. It could be in Atlanta, in Paris, in Perth.
Nailed it
That. Never. Happened.
