In the swing states that won Trump the election there has been a rebound in manufacturing. So yes from a jobs perspective white working class lives improved up to recently. Take PA as one example which had lost hundreds of thousands of Manufacturing jobs in prior decades, and lost 45k manufacturing jobs under Obama, has seen 23k manufacturing jobs added under Trump. The same is true of Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin three other key states. And not just white working class, employment among minorities was at an all time high.
All that is obviously now a moot point but there is no question the strength of the economy, and low unemployment was going to be a big plus for Trump prior to Covid and a headwind for Democrats.

The world economy has not been booming, Europe had been stagnant for the past decade ffs.
Jobs are created by implementing pro business policies, reducing taxes and regulations especially on small business. Most of the new jobs created are small businesses.

Yes, there are lots of small (and medium sized and large) manufacturing businesses. Why is that surprising in a country the size of America?
The facts are the elimination of onerous regulations and reduction in corporate tax (to EU levels) led to a resurgence in job creation. These are obvious things to do for anyone who understand how jobs are created, even for Trump it was obvious.
