US Presidential Election 2016: Sidney's Victory Lap

Eh, no they won’t.

Bernie v Trump would be yuuuuughe, box office stuff, two new yorkers facing off I can’t wait

Hilary is the ultimate big business candidate.

I doubt Trump could beat Clinton. Under the spotlight of the big race his lack of in-depth knowledge of just about every political issue would be brutally exposed, unless Hillary made the mistake Gore did. And I doubt she would.

Cruz would have a better chance as he’s a very strong speaker, handles the media well, and has some depth of reasoning in backing up his arguments. He is probably still too crazy for the centre though. Hillary is despised by millions but at least she’s a known quantity.

New Hampshire hasn’t voted for an eventual President since 1988.

How do these nominations work?
Is it straight up how many states you win or is it weighted?

Why are all the big law firms backing Hilary?

Each state sends delegates to their party convention. Some states mandate their delegates to vote proportionate to the result of the primary, whereas as other states are winner take all in terms of how the delegates vote.

The states voting early in the race tend to have their delegates vote on a proportional basis whereas the ones voting later, ie from April to June, tend to go with a winner take all system like in the electoral college, and they tend to be big states, like California, Florida and Ohio.

One of their own.

Basically the two gone so far are worth fuck all, it’s more symbolic than anything, gets you a bit of momentum a bit more air time etc.

American politics is the best reality show out there

Bernie seems to be enjoying a huge advantage in that the GOP strategists don’t view him as a threat and are attacking hillary, saving him the bother. Why do the black community support clinton so strongly though? She offers them nothing. Te Nehisi Coates is laying into Bernie now for admitting Coates’ daydream of reparations is a non runner. As if Hillary would even contemplate it.

He critiqued his position, he didn’t “lay into him”. He also endorsed Sanders and said he’d be voting for him.

Was that recently?

edit: his support for Sanders seems to have been made public in the last hour. Comic timing on my behalf. Also he specifically said he didn’t endorse him, but would vote for him among the candidates.

edit 2:
If not even an avowed socialist can be bothered to grapple with reparations, if the question really is that far beyond the pale, if Bernie Sanders truly believes that victims of the Tulsa pogrom deserved nothing, that the victims of contract lending deserve nothing, that the victims of debt peonage deserve nothing, that that political plunder of black communities entitle them to nothing, if this is the candidate of the radical left – then expect white supremacy in America to endure well beyond our lifetimes and lifetimes of our children.

I would consider this laying into him

Supreme Court Justice Scalia is dead.

That’s a good thing, obviously. But more importantly it means Obama is likely to appoint a third supreme court justice, which has much significance for the ideological balance of the court. Shouldn’t be entirely possible for him to get it done in the 9 months he has left.

Obama won’t get to appoint Scalia’s replacement. Republicans have already said they will block his appointment till after the election.

Scalia was a cunt, but a great carachter all the same. He could be a funny cunt sometimes. You had to respect his intellect and often acerbic prose.

It certainly adds spice to the election. Obama should put forward a Latino for appointment in the meantime and watch the Republicans lose a shit load of votes in obstructing it.

It will certainly spice things up. You’d imagine Cruz will try to make it a central issue in why he should be elected.
