US Presidential Election Campaign 2012

why in the name of fcuk would two lads campaigning for election in a country where the vast majority of the population never set foot outside the place (unless they are wearing combat boots or tartan trousers) have the remotest interest in international affairs.

if dolly healy ray and his equals took one step away from photo ops beside potholes they wouldnt get a vote in their constituencys, this is the same thing played out on a huge scale

Trying to understand how anyone else thinks (arguably including its own citizens) or reaching out stopped after 9/11. American foreign policy is simple now, if you threaten us or threaten our economic interests we will vaporize you. The difference is in the tactics, the neo-cons want to invade countries and westerize them (fucking lol) while the current administration is happy just to send in the drones.
Romney is surrounded by neo-cons so it would be back to the Chaney-Rumsfeld days and major fireworks, including potentially a few nukes thrown around. For that reason alone Obama is the safer option.
What the fuck is a semi rural area, do you have running water? a jacks?

Foreign policy is very important to Americans, especially after the disaster that was Iraq. It will be a long time before a leader will be trusted that argues for war based on some imminent threat. In some ways this is the worst outcome of the Iraq disaster in that even if there was a serious threat to the West, the American public might not support another intervention (a bit like Europe’s reaction to Hitler, nobody wanted another war after the horrors of WWI until it was too late).

Listened to the ‘debate’ last night. A load of 12 year olds could have a better more nuanced discussion on foreign affairs.

Like who.

Reality is 9/11 was the catalyst for both the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq, so unless something of that scale occurs under Romney he won’t have anywhere near the leeway Bush had.

John Bolton for one, his senior advisor, a knuckle dragging ultrahawk. 70% of Romney’s foreign policy team were on Bush’s team. The neo-con agenda dates to the 1997 mission statement of the Project for a new American Century, 9 of Romney’s team signed it.
The reality is Romney will say anything and take any position to sway voters to get elected. This was obvious last night where he essentially embraced all of Obama’s foreign policy. What he would do in office is another matter, and that is most likely to be dictated by those advising him, as it was with Bush. Based on Romney’s own statements during the Republican primaries and statements early on in the campaign there is reason to believe he would be to the right of Bush.
Crossing Bibi’s red line would likely be the catalyst for a war with Iran. If the neo-cons had held sway over the past 4 years the war would very likely already have begun.

I for one will stand by any invasion into any country America wants to. I actually think they should stomp out the yella bellies in China before those boyos get too big for their boots.

But Turenne , realistically what did youe expect??
most working class americans dont give a shit about foreign policy, i have spent a lot of time working in the pacific NW and also in atlanta over the last 7 years and i can tell that the people i know over there really ae not that interested in what is going on outside their doorstep.
the US election is very unique because US foreign policy tends to dictate what happens in most of the world but the people who live in the US really arent that interested in what uncle sam is getting up to.
yanks are no different to you or i when it comes to voting, itl be day to day things like healthcare, job creation, stable economy etc that wil determine who wins this, the average yank really couldnt give a fuck about whats happening in libya and syria or whether israel or hamas control a strip of dust 40kms long and 10 kms wide by the med that netanyahu is going to turn into a parking lot anyway reagrdless of what happens in november.

US foreign policy directly impacts poor families in places like mississippi , alabama, west virginia and other places where soldiers are recruited from and are sent to fight Bush and Cheney’s war that was started in 2001 that ( and im going to cause controversy here) was done in order to boost the profits of Haliburton , cheney was CEO of Halliburton from 1995-2000 and recieved a severance package of 35 million USD when he left to work with bush during presidential campaign,
in the run up to the iraq war , halliburton was awarded a 7 billion USD contract that “only” hallibuton was allowed to bid for, this contract was taken charge of by defense secretary at the time donald rumsfeld. The company were also awarded sonmething like a 400 million USD contract to build the internement camp in guantanamo bay,
Halliburton are based out of Houtson , Tx, i dont need to say anymore

Who do you think would win in a fight?

4 Chinese lads who know kung fu vs one lazy obese American.

it wouldnt matter really in the finish, america always gets what it wants,

How is that controversial? Its an accepted fact.

You’re right of course, most americans couldn’t give a shit about what happens outside of america. It may have been a big win in this particular debate for Obama, but it won’t really have any effect on the outcome of the election.

Romney will walk this…

2/5 Obama 15/8 Romney per oddschecker.

Can’t see the bookies getting it wrong at this stage

Walking sounds a bit socialist of an activty for somebody like Rmoney to be engaging in.

All the states which have voted Democrat for the last five elections give Obama 242. Ohio which has shown no sign of straying out of the Obama column brings him to 260. Nevada is strongly trending towards him and the early signs in Iowa are also good for him. That puts him over the top. I reckon he’ll pick up a few more swing states too.

will see, he won a number of states 53/47 , 51/49 the last time.

What is the total number of delegates required?

270

The same bookies that had Obama 1/7 less than two weeks ago.
It’s tight and getting tighter. Very good chance that Obama could win Electoral College but loss popular vote.

Obama was a coke dealer in uni apparently. Some man.
