Simon Carswell who has covered the Anglo debacle in detail for years has a good piece in the times today http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2013/0207/1224329744736.html]http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2013/0207/1224329744736.html

IRBC costing the state 200m a year more to run that the other state debt agency NAMA. Iā€™ve been arguing for the liquidation of Anglo/INBS since 2008 so its a positive move as far as Iā€™m concerned for those cost savings alone.

AIB and PTSB should be thrown to the wolves too.

The thing is the ECB havenā€™t agreed to anything yet. So everything that was done last night could still blow up in their faces. Will be interesting to see what is said at the ECB press conference today.

I think that the TFK ā€˜expertsā€™ were a bit previous with the 'oul mass hysteria

I missed all this last night. But I am sure that Enda did a great job and has saved the country.
Vast majority of them would be back at their desks the following day.

FFS, some of you are indulging mightily in hyperbole here, the act is a logical and smart move.

yes under TUPE contracts I understand but now a lot of them will move to work for NAMA. Handy work for the KGB taking over the board, how these cunts keep getting state contractsā€¦

One govt department to another really but NAMA will at least keep salaries etc under control. A lot of efficiencies there (should have happened years ago). The conspiracy theories re IRBC being kept alive to keep FG and FAI buddy DOB sweet and out of NAMA seem to be blown away. Seems a bad day for the Quinn family too as I suspect NAMA will increase the pressure on them.

the namawinelake guru seems to think this is a largely positive day. Will await for his definitive account tomorrow morning

the SF barstooler followers letting themselves down badly here with the landmine type comments
oh ffs. what came out of last night was that the anglo debt is now sovereign debt and theres no deal on the table from the ecb.

all we can say at this point is that he didnā€™t delegate the job to a terminally ill man, like the biffo did

I missed it as well. Like a good Irishman I was in the pub sinking pints of Guinness.

Proper order. At least you were out trying to kick a bit of life into the economy rather than sitting at home bitching like an auld wan. We need more people like you, Farmer.

Uninspiring cast for Vinnie tonight.

Iā€™m inspired by the chick on the right  :pint:

Vinnie moaning about the government not providing a representative and having to tell pat rabbitte to fuck off. Heā€™s strangely off form for such a big night.

anglo debt is only now sovereign debt? despite the various machinations, that was always the case my friend

it aint much of a deal but the current repayment situation was disastrous and that has been reduced

IRBC being liquidated is a positive outcome too

no it was never, nor should it ever be sovereign debt. the option of having the PN declared unconstitutional should have presented a powerful bargaining tool but we never took it.

a terrible day for irish democracy

Fionan Sheehan having a period here.

Who stole Fionanā€™s bun?

He takes no shit from Vincent and I think Vincent respects him for it!

Fionnan is a gas man all the same. Now he knows more about economics than Stephen Donnelly. No journo has been more comprehensively paid for by the establishment than Mrs Power, the way he attacks the representatives outside the big 3 parties is beyond parody at this stage. Pearse Doherty cannot be a good speaker because his party voted for the bank guarantee ffs ! What he really means is Iā€™m married to a FFailure, born into blueshirtism and even helped Michael Lowry get elected. Why in the name would I credit anyone who upsets the status quo, be it Donnelly or Doherty.

I was reading my free ā€œIndependentā€ in McDonalds yesterday when an article [not FS] mentioned the rise of FF in the polls and referenced their star performers of Kelliher, McGrath etc. They then added Senator Averil Power to that list !!! Now you have to ask was that really necessary or just a sop to a fellow employee?

Good shout. The publicity Averil Power gets is sickening. She has achieved nothing other than get rejected by the electorate twice, but between her husband and the party theyā€™ve decided sheā€™s worthy of publicity and sheā€™s now a mainstream politician despite no mandate.

Bizarre antics from Sheehan last night alright, the tough guy thing doesnā€™t really suit him. The attack on Pearse Doherty was predictable enough from someone like him, but the attack of Stephen Donnelly was surprising. Donnelly tends to present quite cogent and precise arguments and is one of the most popular of the independents as a result. You would initially think that it was incredibly misjudged as the public reaction seems to have been uniformly negative, but I suppose itā€™ll further endear him to the political establishment which was probably the point.

Fionnan is a simpleton. He failed first year Arts at UCC three times.
