Came across a situation recently, sorry I don’t have all the exact details, but foreigners on 20 hour work visas (I presume some foreigners can get 40 hour per week work visas) are being sent letters by the guards and the guards are ringing their employers, warning them not to work more than 20 hours a week. If they do their visa will be removed and they’ll be deported.
Are we not crying out for workers to work in out hotels, restaurants and coffee shops?
Could somebody clear this up for me? I’m surprised it hasn’t been in the news.
Are we doing like the Australian’s, bring them in, make them spend all their money, then send them home broke.
Perhaps they’re student visas. Like I said I haven’t all the exact details.
Even so they should be able to work whatever hours they want, holidays periods, and all.
I’d say it could be more so the visa not being re-renewed thats the problem. Vast majority of non-eu people work longer than 40 hours a week. I can’t fathom how its an issue even. Once where you work vouches for you, you’re sorted.
Just checked with the missus as she’s FC of a hospitality group and have numerous employees on the 20 hour weeks. It’s on a student visa only and they must be on a registered college course, obviously dependent on where they are from as doesn’t apply to EU citizens. They can work 40 hours a week for certain months over the summer and in December.
“College courses” alright. Wasn’t there a big scam exposed on that a few of these “Dublin English Language and Business Institute” types were pulled up on?
If you’re here on a student visa you shouldn’t be working more than 20 hours a week. If you were working 40 hours where does the study come in? A good friend of mine is over here from Nigeria on a student visa. He is in college full time, has a part time job and is a church minister as well, he’s some man. He has to do work experience for college now but the company can’t pay him due to this 20 hour craic. He doesn’t want to give up the other job as he needs it after the internship.
