Heās taking over super rugby team chiefs in a few weeks time.
I thought he was retiring and doing the lions gig
A shadow of himself, heād admit that himself
1997 through to 2001 were peak years for Woody. You havenāt a breeze.
Who is saying otherwise? You dont get picked for a Lions tour without being at the top of your game and Woodie played all three testsā¦
1999 was Gattyās annus horribilis - and given how much more inept Ireland displays in knockout games since then have been whitewashed, a four point loss to an under rated Argentina team doesnāt look so bad in hindsight
He has barely put a foot wrong as a coach in the last 20 years
Two solid decades of success and improving teams hugely, be it Ireland, Wasps, Wales, or the British Loins
In four World Cups, he has never lost a knockout game by more than four points
The fact the lions couldnāt beat New Zealand was shameful. Iād have coached them to beat Australia. Heās pretty much viewed as a failure by Welch fans. Only for Shaun Edwards heās nothing. Possibly blessed too his attack coach bet on England and got himself removed.
I wonder has there ever been a coach of Wales who later went on to coach New Zealand, and if so, what their record is like?
Heās was scrapped at that stage

You have @myboyblue blocked on rugby matters donāt you? Wise move for somebody like yourself who only wants to engage in insightful rugby discourse.
It was @myboyblue who was claiming that Keith Wood was fucked by 1999. Not a breeze.

Yeah, shameful
Iād have coached them to beat Australia.
Yeah, you would
Heās pretty much viewed as a failure by Welch fans.
Yeah, he is

Alex Ferguson was nothing without Archie Knox/Brian Kidd/Steve McClaren/Carlos Queiroz/Rene Meulensteen/Mike Phelan
ireland were beaten by japan mate
jersey did better vs russia than we did

Ah shtaaaaaaap
watched the match this morning, with a mate from Wales. He played through all the grades for Wales, bar senior and lined out for Llanelli for a few years at the end of the amateur era. He was like a dog after the match. His parting comment to me was, thatās two semi finals under Gatland that weāve fucked away, when we had the better team and players.
TNH
If Ireland had faced France in the quarter final theyād have probably won.
You donāt know what youāre talking about.
No mate, you donāt.
anon23727452:He underachieved with wales in my opinion. Heās absolutely hated in New Zealand too. Pretty sure theyāve called out his style on multiple times. Heād have to probably coach a super rugby franchise first to have any chance.
Theyād have mixed views on Gatland in Wales. Wales have a very demanding rugby public. They were the preeminent international team in European rugby for the guts of a century up until the early 1980ās when the collapse of the steel industry and the mass exodus to rugby league decimated the Welsh game. The feeling in Wales was when rugby went professional, the old order would be restored. It took a few years to bed down put when the first Grand Slam since 1978 was won under Mike Ruddock in 2005, the view was they were back in their rightful position to stay.
Gatland was under pressure coming into this season, not having won a Championship since 2012 under his stewardship. Even when they won the Grand Slam this year, there were mutterings from the Welsh rugby public that only Italy scored more tries. Thereās an expectation in Wales, not only that they win, but they win in style like the team of the 1970ās did.

which is completely at odds with your views about South Africa
Thatās his view. The Welsh are a very confident lot when it comes to rugby and their team.
Lads think ireland were a good team cos they had BOD and a crocked Keith Wood, no wonder irish rugby always has mental expectations
