Not entirely true. Most are in favour of him staying on. Fact. Especially the more senior ones.
There is no way in the world a man like Cahill would stay if the players āto a manā wanted him gone
Waterford had one game to get it right after Limerick loss. Cork was a de facto knock out game for both.
I wouldnāt necessarily read all that much into Clare game. They were out after they lost to Cork. Itās inevitable in this round robin format that youāll end up with last day non events like that, when teams that are all but eliminated are going through the motions of fulfilling fixtures.
These days Iām not sure how any county board would offer another year to someone who players universally wanted gone either
Waterford County Board have a bit of form here. Only 4 years ago, they appointed a manager the players didnāt universally want there from Day 1. It all ended in tears just over 6 months later.
None of the current players were involved then - but after 6 years at the helm, Justin McCarthy was all but done after 2007 semi final defeat to Limerick. He was reappointed but was forced out mid season in 2008.
Absolutely iconic. Back when hurling and the gaa really really meant something to the people and the players. Look at the emotion in John mullanes face. Incredible times.
Are you telling me if Wexford won a Leinster or Tipp won a Munster you wouldnāt see wild scenes of celebration? Not to mention Waterford, Mayo or Cork et al winning an All Ireland?
The Gunners were turned over by Thurles Sarsfields in Bennettsbridge last weekend but Im assuming Dessie will be back tomorrow.
Ballygunner pulling away from Mount Sion now, 1-19 to 0-13 half way through second half.
Patrick Fitzgerald with 1-05 from play.
Heās a serious talent.
You wouldnāt hear the most positive of reports about his application and diligence to training though.
Isnt Dessie a student? You would think he would have joined the gravy train in America for the summer.
Aussie is seemingly off in America too. Will he be back for the Championship?
Austin played last night.
Did he? I heard earlier in the week heās heading off. Thereāll be no knock out championship matches in Waterford probably until early September so thereāll be a raft of absentees presumably across the board through the group stages.
He had a penalty saved by Soky.
BG could afford to leave Dessie, Philip, Pauric and Mikey Mahony warming the bench and still won handy enough.
I am hearing rumours that next seasons management team may not be nailed on like we thought.
Itās never been anywhere closer to nailed on. Cahill made conciliatory noises after the campaign ended once he probably figured out that options might not be too good elsewhere.
Throwing players under a bus like he did after Cork game and then players downing tools next day against Clare only ever goes one way.
What Iāve heard on it in recent weeks is thereās diverging views on it at county board level as well.
