No offence to the lads being mentioned as wanting to travel but let them off.
They’re heads or hearts aren’t in it at the moment regardless.
There will be plenty of young lads with the ability mad to wear the jersey, give them proper guidance and training & they’ll try at least.
Bennett, Lyons and Gleeson. Big rebuild job. Bennett and Gleeson must be nearly 30?
Bennett and Gleeson will be 28 later in the year.
Lyons is a lovely hurler who flourished under Cahill & Bevans.
Austin hasn’t really hurled really effectively since his early days.
Bennett seems at odds with himself for two years now. Still a young man but looking at him this year he’ll be no loss with his current attitude.

Was Shane Bennett a big loss?

Excuse me?
Shane Bennett a big loss this year?
What had he done previously?
Cant remember him much myself.
The mentality in Waterford is just incredibly brittle. No matter how well they are going or how confident they are, they always have a fear at the back of their heads going out to play that they will be absolutely hammered.
It goes back to the early 80’s I’d say when they got some unmerciful hidings in Munster Finals.
No other top level hurling county has the same mental block.
Wexford probably as well.

Would Molumphy be the favourite down Waterford for the permenant gig?
Dublin definitely do though I’m not sure we would be considered top level.
Shane was destroyed by Derek, expected to cover three full backs just because he had a bit of pace. He threw his hat at it and he was probably right.

I remember 89 Munster final v Tipp. Novelty as on live tv. Absolutely hammered and absolutely filthy.
They were on the All Ireland Minor winning team in 2013.
The Black and Tans in Blue and White according to Kevin Cashman.

We need to go back to having some of that filth. White steel.
It’s all we can bring v Tipp.
