Waterford Hurling (now incorporating intermediate football) 2013 and subsequent years

Seniors finished with 12 players.

Austin amongst those red carded.

Ballygunner U13’s are handy

Micheal MacCraith Tramore 1-3 V 17-13 Ballygunner

Jesus; their dominance is going to kill Waterford hurling.

Tramore wouldn’t be much of a hurling hotbed.

Their Seniors are in huge trouble at half time against Abbeyside.

Abbeyside are leading Ballygunner 0-12 to 0-6. I was half thinking of sticking my head into Fraher Field on the way back from an U9 underage match out west this morning, before I was relayed a long list of Abbeyside absent and wounded.

Must be playing with a Hurricane force wind first half

Big wind alright.

13-11 now to Abbeyside. 18 mins left.

1-12 to 0-13 now. Paddy Fitzgerald roofs one to the net.

That may well be that. 16 left.

That lad is the business. As good as any young forward around.

All 12 out of 12 teams advance from the mini blitz group phase.

Gunners win handy 1-21 to 0-16 for a finish.

BG 49 not out in Waterford Championship.

Hard to know what to do about that. Not doing anybody any good

Not a bad effort today. Certainly a few positives to take from it. Made a game of it for long periods. But Ballygunner went through the gears in the last quarter and picked us off handy enough in the end.
Started with seven U-20’s and have a few lads to come back in. Passage in 2 weeks will tell us a lot more.

Bennett x3 missing for Ballysaggart but BG must have 20 players used for Senior already.

Any word on the three lads playing with Waterford next year?

I was at underage match in Ballysaggart the other night. They were saying they can barely field a team. Shane and Kieran Bennett are in Australia. Stephen is a schoolteacher and is gone for the summer but will be back towards the end of August as will a raft of other young absentees that are gone for the summer.

Ballygunner Junior A’s lost to Roanmore by 9 or 10 points in their opener last week. Ballygunner won the East last year and narrowly lost to Colligan in the county final. Demographic of that team is a few ould lads mid to late 30’s and college students so even with the Ballygunner numbers they’ve struggled in that group all year. What the split season zealots just don’t grasp is if you’re doing the heavy lifting in a county championship in the month of August, a lot of people are just gone on holidays, travelling etc. it’s the worst month of the year you could be playing off a club championship.

Ballygunner seniors beat Passage 2-28 to 0-10 last night. Sobering to think that Passage were the last team before Ballygunner to win it a decade ago in 2013.

Club matches were always played in August mate pre split season. If Waterford exited the championship in July under the old system club championship was played in August.

I know it’s overused but Ballysaggert have a tiny population. They’d typically be Junior A or B and it was literally one generation, led by the Bennett’s that have got them this far.

Tourin have folded and went in with Cappoquin this year and long term Ballysaggert will be with Lismore.

Waterford Really needs a second club in Ballygunnar/Gaultier parish.

Ballysaggart haven’t fielded underage teams for years. They’re combined with Lismore. Just been up there the other night, it really is in the arse end of nowhere as far off the beaten track as you could get anywhere in the country.
