Waterford Hurling (now incorporating intermediate football) 2013 and subsequent years

Ballygunner will play the Western Champions, Fourmilewater in the County Final

I’d say today was the County Final in all but name.

Was Tim Byrne yeah he was bellowing down the microphone after the game for the linesmen to come forward to pick the man of the match. If was all very strange. He’s an awful dose.

Got absolutely skinned by Twomey at different stages. I counted just twice in the near 90 minutes of play he had possession of the ball in his hand.

Is that the same Hutchinson that acted up in passage a good few years ago after they beat Ballygunner in the final.

Can’t rightly remember. He was the man of the match that day wrote down on a slip in the press box actually until injury time.

I’m fairly sure that Wayne Hutchinson started out underage with Passage and moved to Ballygunner when he was around 15 or 16. Wayne would be about the 40 mark now.

Fairly sure he was training a team in Dublin this year

One observation I would make from living in Waterford for close to 15 years. They have them all over the country, but you really get a special kind of County Board official in Waterford.

The Hutchinsons live in the disputed territory of Dunmore East (up in Shanakiel). Parish wise that’s Passage but there’s no parish rule. Wayne played one senior championship game (I think) for Waterford in 2011 v Limerick.

Was he a sub in 2004 Munster final.

He went for the u20 gig a few years ago when they gave it to Ken. He wasn’t too happy he didn’t get it either.

Non playing I think.

If say he would be their cup of tea at all.

Dessie Hutchinson was very quick to mention his clubs of Ballygunner and Gaultier in his acceptance speech for the 1B League trophy this year.

Gaultier is the Gaelic Football Club in Dunmore East, which would be his home club.

Unusually it’s a club named after a Barony not a townland or a parish. The Barony includes both Passage and Ballygunner who both supply players to the GFC.

Gaultier would be very strong at underage level in football in Waterford. When they get to about U16 then, there’s more or less a quiet word in the ear, give up the ould football and concentrate on the serious business of hurling with Ballygunner and Passage and there’s a massive loss of numbers.

Gaultier have never won a Waterford Senior Football Championship. They’ve lost in semi final for something like 5 or 6 years running now and by a point last few years. Likes of Rathgormack, The Nire, Stradbally wouldn’t have such issues as regards underage player retention.

The Dunmore East natives, like the Hutchinsons would stay at the football. The Fitzgeralds all hail from Dunmore East as well. Mark Fitzgerald and cousin Patrick were playing Senior football this year as was Dessie.

Billy O’Keefe plays Football too for Gaultier and is a Dunmore East native aswell.
