Did Gautier ever hurl or was it always football?
Would good lads in Tramore play with the Ballygunner as well?

Dunmore was always a Gaelic Football village. Gaultier never played hurling as far as I am aware. Its players are mostly hurlers from Passage and Ballygunner. Mark Fitzgerald, the Hutchinsons and Billy OâKeeffe live in the vicinity of the village.
There are very few âgood ladsâ in Tramore but they have their own club. One of their better players of about two decades ago, Tommy Partridge (a grandson of Pat Fanning) transferred to DLS. That was controversial enough at the time.
Gaultier (Dunmore East) players historically would have broken a lot more for Passage than Ballygunner but a real reversal of that in recent years. The Fitzgeralds are originally from Dunmore East and all hurled on those Passage teams that lost a few county senior hurling finals in the early 1990âs.
A veteran Dessie Hutchinson Senior at the end of his playing days was on those Passage panels of early 1990âs as well. Wayne Hutchinson, I believe started out underage with Passage and it went down a treat when he transferred in to Ballygunner in his mid teens.
Mark Fitzgeraldâs father Eddie (Skinny) is Chairman of Gaultier GAA club. They live out towards Brownstown Head. Bit of a trek from there to Passage. Youâd be closer from there to the hurling wasteland of Tramore.
Patrick Fitzgeraldâs father Anthony (Fly) would live a good bit out the road to Dunmore, where the lake is. The OâSullivan genes held sway there though and he hurled with Ballygunner.
Third Fitzgerald brother, Paul (Googs) was manager of that Gaultier ladies team last night. Donât think Googs has any sons, just a gaggle of daughters, Hopper McGrath like.
The Flynns would be another prominent Gaultier/Dunmore East football family. Youngest brother Eddie is current club secretary in Ballygunner.
Some tremendous nicknames in Waterford.
Any relation to Pat Fitzgerald who hurled with Waterford (mainly in league) in late 90s early noughties ? Donât know his Waterford club but he hurled with UCD in Dublin champo
No relation at all. That Pat Fitzgerald is from Modeligo in West Waterford. Had a stint with Clara in Kilkenny, then Ballyduff Lower before finishing up back at Modeligo.
Everyone of a certain vintage has a nickname in Waterford. I think that âtraditionâ has died out amongst the younger generation.
I never knew thatâŚhe and his brother Brian âBirdyâ transferred to DLS, but both were in their twilight by then.
Yes I have a nickname
There were two Eddie Fitzgeralds on those Gaultier teams of the 1990âs that got to a few county senior football finals. Eddie âSkinnyâ Fitzgerald and the late Eddie âDuffinâ Fitzgerald. Duffin was an absolute gentleman and a great and well known character in Dunmore East. Did a lot with the RNLI.
What is it?
We had a Growler and a Scour from Mount sion hurl with us back in the day. Two right lads
Sean âThe Growlerâ Daly from Lismore was full forward on Waterford U 21 All Ireland winning team in 1992. Scored a hat-trick of goals in drawn final against Offaly. Destroyed Kevin Kinahan. Was around senior team on and off until around 1998. Never really made impact expected.
Rathgormack and the Nire will contest the county Senior Football Final for the sixth time in seven years. The Nire beat Ballinacourty handily 0-12 to 0-5 while Rathgormack edged out Gaultier 1-14 to 0-15. Roanmore were relegated to Premier Intermediate.
Gautlier still relying on a 40 year old JJ Hutchinson, Mark Fitzgerald and Dessie Hutchinson to do most of the heavy lifting.
That must be about 7 or 8 semi finals Gautlier have lost in the last decade, most of them by tight enough margins as well. They canât make that breakthrough of even getting to a final.
Rathgormack do the 4 in a row. Easy win over The Nire 2-13 to 0-10.
And Dungarvan footballers are promoted to intermediate for next year. Beat Ferrybank well on Saturday by 10 or 11 points.
I heard Brickeys won two County Football finals at the weekend at Minor and Intermediate
Brickeys are hoovering up players at Dungarvanâs expense.
