A lot of people with autism these days would have just been described as a bit “odd” when I was young.
There’s a bit of research been done and more to do on the link between asexuality (those who feel no sexual attraction towards anyone) and the vast autism spectrum. So, If you knew a ton of odd spinsters and bachelors down the years or know an unusual human in a dead bedroom situation, it could be down to not having had a diagnosis. I find it difficult to believe that there are more cases these days, just that we were in the dark ages in Ireland with our mental health infrastructure and education.
