Weird News Stories

I thought this story in the Irish Times today was very strange altogether. His mother asked him how he was and if needed a doctor despite “not believing” that he took the pills nor even going to check whether 20 pills were missing
! That’s odd. And the fact he did it and then confessed he did. At 17 surely you’d know necking 20 pills of any description is dangerous. Then they saw that he’d been sick. And didn’t check the pills? And then didn’t find him dead in his room until 2pm??! What in the name of fuck.

Teen died after taking mother’s anti-depressant pills, court told

A TEENAGE boy died after swallowing 20 anti-depressant pills that had been prescribed to his mother, an inquest in Cork has heard.

The coroner was told yesterday that the boy loved life and was planning his 18th birthday party.

The pills he took, Dothiepin – a tricyclic anti-depressant, sold under the brand name Prothiaden – are some of the most dangerous drugs that can be taken in an overdose, Cork City Coroner’s Court heard.

His parents said he had just begun his summer holidays when he took the pills at his family home on the night of June 6th, 2010.

Shortly after 11pm, he returned home and ate with his family. Later he confessed to his mother that that he had taken 20 Dothiepin pills, a drug used to treat depression, which belonged to her.

His mother told the inquest that at the time she did not fully believe him and did not check whether the medication was missing. She checked on him to ask how he was feeling and ask whether he needed a doctor, but he said he felt fine.

At 4am his parents heard him snoring in his bedroom as they got up to tend to another sibling but noted that he had been sick.

The following day at 2pm, the teenager was found pale and lifeless in his bedroom. He was pronounced dead shortly after.

In her postmortem report deputy State pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster recorded the cause of death as an overdose of Dothiepin, which induced sleep followed by deep coma.

GardaĂ investigating his death found nothing suspicious. He left no note or any documents, and had never expressed any wish to harm himself.

Coroner Dr Myra Cullinane said: “He intended to do it, but there is nothing to suggest he intended to end his life.”

A jury returned a verdict of death by misadventure.

Indonesian MP caught viewing sex sites in parliament

An Indonesian MP who helped pass a tough anti-pornography law has resigned after being caught watching sexually explicit videos on his computer during a parliamentary debate.

A photographer saw the man, a member of the staunchly Islamic Prosperous Justice Party, gazing at the downloaded porn sites last Friday.

The blurred images have been published on the front pages of newspapers almost daily and commenters said the MP, who has just the single name Arifinto, should be prosecuted under the law he brought in.

Arifinto, 50, apologised to his constituents today and said he was stepping down from parliament immediately.

“It’s my decision,” said the father of five, insisting he was not acting on the orders of his party.

“Nobody tried to coerce me.”

Indonesia, with a population of 237 million people, has more Muslims than any other country in the world. Although most are moderate, a small extremist fringe has become more vocal in recent years.

They have pushed through several controversial laws – including the pornography law. Supporters say the law is needed to keep the country from sliding into moral decline, while critics say it’s vaguely worded and the penalties too harsh.

The law calls for prison terms of up to 15 years and fines for everything from kissing in public and exposure of a woman’s “sensual” body parts to displaying “erotic” artworks.

Broadcasting, possessing and storing pornographic material also is prohibited.

Arifinto, who oversees a parliamentary commission dealing with transportation, telecommunications and rural development, was an outspoken supporter of the law.

He was caught watching the video clip for several minutes as fellow legislators debated plans to build a new parliament building.

The anti-porn law was used in January to sentence Nazril “Ariel” Irham, lead singer of the country’s most popular band Peterpan, to 40 months in jail after two home-made sex tapes found their way to the internet.

Last year, the editor in chief of Playboy Indonesia was given two years behind bars.

Jail For Woman Busted In Auto Erotic Incident

APRIL 18–The Cincinnati motorist who was simultaneously masturbating with a sex toy while watching a pornographic video when cops pulled her over last year has pleaded guilty to a drug charge stemming from the bizarre traffic stop, according to court records.

Colondra Hamilton, 36, copped last Thursday to possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with the bizarre August incident. A Municipal Court judge sentenced Hamilton to 10 days in jail, fined her $200, and suspended her driver’s license for six months.

Hamilton was hit with the drug paraphernalia charge after Elmwood Place Police Department officers found a “broken piece of crack pipe” in her purse. Cops had stopped Hamilton because they believed that the windows of her 2008 Pontiac were overly tinted. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed the tinted window violation and several other minor charges.

According to a police report, when officers approached Hamilton’s vehicle they noticed that her pants were unbuttoned and a sex toy was in her lap. Hamilton, cops reported, “advised that she had been using it [the vibrator] while watching a video on the computer the passenger was holding.” Investigators did not further identify the video, though they have said it was of the X-rated variety.

The multitasking Hamilton’s problems, though, did not end with her April 14 misdemeanor plea. She was arrested yesterday on theft charges for allegedly swiping merchandise (cleaning items, an air mattress, and a Blu-Ray player) from a Fairfax, Ohio Walmart on three separate occasions this month.

Hamilton is pictured above in a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office mug shot taken early Sunday morning. (1 page)

Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson and Marlon Brando 'fled 9/11 in hire car

'Trio reportedly embarked on cross-country dash following terrorist attacks on New York in 2001, claims Taylor’s former PA

It may well be the most outlandish road trip since the wheel was invented: a cross-country dash featuring Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson and Marlon Brando, in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The trio reportedly took turns driving, with Brando allegedly fueling himself on a diet of junk food.

Details of the trip emerged in a Vanity Fair interview with Tim Mendelson, Taylor’s former personal assistant. It came about after Jackson invited the two Hollywood actors to be his guests at a pair of concerts at New York’s Madison Square Garden in early September 2001. Following the attacks on the World Trade Centre and the subsequent grounding of all internal flights, the trio were forced to find alternative transport back to the west coast. Mendelson claims they wound up driving a modest rental car all the way to Ohio – a distance of more than 500 miles.

The trip was not all plain sailing. “Brando allegedly annoyed his colleagues by stopping at every KFC and Burger King they passed along the highway,” writes Vanity Fair reporter Sam Kashner. “One can only imagine the shock their appearance caused at gas stations and rest stops across America.”

But Mendelson’s freewheeling picaresque has already hit a bump in the road, with another of Taylor’s aides insisting the actor was never in the car. “Elizabeth stayed behind,” the anonymous aide told the magazine. “She went to a church to pray, and she went to an armory where people were who couldn’t get home or who’d stayed behind to look for the missing. She also went down to Ground Zero, where she met with first responders. Eventually, the airports opened and she flew home.”

Unhappily, the trio at the centre of Mendelson’s story are now unavailable for comment. Brando died in 2004, Jackson in 2009 and Taylor in March of this year. The method of their escape from New York looks set to remain a mystery.

Proper order. That fat cunt is making money out of the fact that he kicked her to the kerb like the whale that she is. Least she can do is give him a few quid to buy brassers with so he can somehow manage to forget how it felt to have her rolls of flab hynotise him as he tried to give her one.

Adele Asked For Royalties By Ex

Adele’s ex-boyfriend asked her for a percentage of royalties from her hit album ‘19’ because he claims he inspired her to write about the heartache she suffered during their relationship.

Adele’s ex-boyfriend has asked for a cut of her royalties for inspiring her hit album ‘19’.

The ‘Someone Like You’ hitmaker has revealed her former lover - who she has refused to name - repeatedly called her claiming she owed him money for the songs she wrote on her debut LP about their failed romance.

She is quoted by The Sun newspaper as saying: "For about a week he was calling and was deadly serious about it.

"Finally, I said, ‘Well, you made my life hell, so I lived it and now I deserve it.’

“He really thought he’d had some input into the creative process by being a p***k. I’ll give him this credit - he made me an adult and put me on the road that I’m travelling.”

Although it was released in 2008, ‘19’ is now number three in the UK album chart following the success of her latest record ‘21’ - which has spent 14 weeks in the top spot in Britain - while ‘19’ and ‘21’ are placed at number 20 and number one in the US chart respectively.

Earlier this year, the 23-year-old singer admitted the tracks on ‘21’ were inspired by her tumultuous love life, and specifically an “amazing, immense relationship” which came to an end.

She said: “I had the most amazing, immense relationship. It didn’t last, unfortunately - it stopped being fun, but thankfully the ending wasn’t bitter. The whole thing changed me. It made me really passionate about love, life, me - pretty much everything.”

British woman beheaded in Tenerife supermarket
Man ran into supermarket on Spanish island, grabbed knife, killed woman then rushed out carrying head

Giles Tremlett in Madrid and Karen McVeigh guardian.co.uk, Friday 13 May 2011 16.10 BST

A man has killed and beheaded a British woman in a supermarket on the Spanish holiday island of Tenerife.

The man attacked the unnamed 60-year-old woman in a Chinese supermarket in the resort town of Los Cristianos, Arona, severing her neck with a knife and then rushing on to the street carrying the head.

Passersby and security guards tried to stop him and he was eventually caught after an Italian man on a motorbike knocked him to the ground by hurling a helmet at him. The man tripped over and fell to the ground, with his pursuers managing to restrain him until police arrived.

The alleged killer is an unemployed Bulgarian apparently well known in the town and occasionally given to loudly proclaiming himself to be God on earth. The 28-year-old man lives in the town.

Spain’s state news agency, EFE, quoted police sources as saying that the victim was a 60-year-old British woman who had been shopping in the supermarket about 10.30am local time. Her name has not been released.

Colin Kirby, a reporter for Tenerifemagazine.com, saw the aftermath of the attack.

“I didn’t see the attack but I saw the guy,” he said. "It was unreal. I was walking past the commercial centre and I saw a small group of people outside. There was a guy from the medical centre going down the ramp and I thought perhaps someone had fainted.

"I heard people shouting and screaming and making a commotion and there was this guy and he was holding a head in his hand. He was holding it by the hair, there was blood on it. I thought it was a theatrical head, guy playing a practical joke. There was nothing in his other hand, no weapon or anything.

“The man was in his late 20s
he was a bit dishevelled, unwashed, he was wearing a jumper and trousers, when everyone else is wearing shorts. Even at 10.30 in the morning, it’s boiling.”

Kirby said that the man ran off after a group of people chased after him but he was tackled by a security guard.

"There were people coming after him and he started running. A security guard tried to tackle him and he ran but then the security guard managed to restrain him:

Kirby described Los Cristianos as having a large expat British community.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said that not all the woman’s family had been informed and they could not comment other than to confirm that the woman had died. “We are aware that a British national has died in Tenerife,” she said.

Mayor JosĂ© Alberto GonzĂĄlez said the attack appeared unpremeditated and had been recorded on the supermarket’s security cameras.

A witness told the broadcaster Cadena Ser that he saw the man drop the head on the pavement after coming out of the shop. “I parked my car and saw a man running out with something bloody in his hands and a security guard chasing him,” he said. “He threw it to the ground. It almost hit me and what he had been carrying was a woman’s head.”

A regional interior ministry delegate, Dominica Fernandez, said the suspect was believed to have entered the shop and stolen a knife, which he then used to behead the woman. Fernandez said the attack appeared to be random.

Police were investigating to see if the victim and the killer knew one another.

Arona is a resort town, popular with British tourists, situated on the southern point of Tenerife. The attack happened in Los Cristianos, the most built-up part of Arona – a large municipality which covers an area of coastline and some inland country areas.

That seems a bit out of order.

Stayed in Los Cristianos when I was 18 but don’t recall anything like that ever happening.

Here though, this is another example of the local madman going and killing someone. Good few cases in Ireland in the last few years. There’s a lad in the town I grew up in and he’s completely insane. Everyone says “ah, he’s harmless” but we’ll see what they say when he goes and lops off some poor cunt’s head, that’s all I’m saying.

They’ll say it was Gorey

Kenya’s Olympic marathon champion Sammy Wanjiru commits suicide

KENYAN OLYMPIC marathon champion Sammy Wanjiru committed suicide by jumping from a balcony shortly after a domestic dispute involving his wife and another woman, police in Kenya said today. He was 24.

Wanjiru died late Sunday after jumping from a balcony at his home in the town of Nyahururu, in the Rift Valley, said John Mbijiwe, the police chief in Kenya’s Central Province.

“The fact of the matter is that Wanjiru committed suicide,” said national police spokesman Eric Kiraithe.

Wanjiru’s fatal jump came shortly after an argument with his wife, said a police official who was not authorised to release the information and requested anonymity.

Wanjiru, who had been drinking, was with another woman in his home and was discovered by his wife, the official said.

In the 2008 Beijing Games, Wanjiru became the first Kenyan to win a gold medal in the marathon, finishing in an Olympic-record 2 hours, 6 minutes, 32 seconds.

Wanjiru had a history of domestic problems. Last December, he was charged with wounding his security guard with a rifle and threatening to kill his wife and maid. The runner denied all charges and was released on bail.

Wanjiru made an early start to his career, moving at age 15 to Japan, where he attended school in Sendai — a city hard hit by this year’s tsunami — and won several major cross country events while also competing in track competitions.

Moving to Europe to advance his promising career, Wanjiru won the Rotterdam Half Marathon in 2005 in a world-record time. He twice improved on that record before stepping up to the full marathon in 2007 with a win in Japan’s Fukuoka Marathon.

The following year, he finished second in the prestigious London marathon, and then claimed the biggest prize of his career by taking Olympic gold in Beijing.

Wanjiru became the youngest runner to win four major marathons. Along with the Olympics, he won in London in 2009 and in Chicago in 2009 and 2010 — running the fastest ever time recorded in a marathon in the United States.

American marathon runner Ryan Hall posted on Twitter: “Incredibly sad news about Sammy. I am shocked and saddened.”

German insurer Munich Re held orgy for salesmen

One of the biggest insurance companies in the world held a party for salesmen where they were rewarded with the services of prostitutes.

Munich Re is the world’s biggest re-insurer - in other words, the company acts as an insurance company for other insurance companies.

One of its divisions, Ergo, told the BBC that the party had taken place to reward salesmen in 2007.

A spokesman said the people who organised it had since left.

The gathering was held at a thermal baths in the Hungarian capital Budapest as a reward to particularly successful salesmen.
‘Whatever they liked’

There were about 100 guests and 20 prostitutes were hired.

A German business newspaper said the prostitutes had worn colour-coded arm-bands designating their availability, and the women had their arms stamped after each service rendered.

According to Handelsblatt, quoting an unnamed participant, guests were able to take the women to four-poster beds at the spa “and do whatever they liked”.

“After each such encounter the women were stamped on the lower arm in order to keep track of how often each woman was frequented,” the paper quoted the man as saying.

"The women wore red and yellow wrist bands. One lot were hostesses, the others would fulfil your every wish.

“There were also women with white wrist bands. They were reserved for board members and the very best sales reps.”

A spokesman for Ergo told the BBC that the party had happened, but said it was not the usual way of rewarding their employees.

N.Z. truckie ‘blew up like balloon’ in freak accident

A New Zealand truck driver who inflated “like a balloon” when he fell buttocks-first onto a compressed air nozzle was described as lucky to be alive Wednesday.

Steven McCormack was working on his truck at Opotiki on the North Island on Saturday when he slipped between the cab and the trailer, dislodging the compressed air hose that feeds the brakes, the Whakatane Beacon reported.

It said the brass fitting that the hose had been attached to pierced McCormack’s left buttock in the fall, sending compressed air rushing into his body.

The 48-year-old said he felt as if he was going to explode and began to scream as his neck, feet and hands swelled up.

“I was blowing up like a football
it felt like I had the bends, like in diving. I had no choice but just to lay there, blowing up like a balloon,” he told the newspaper.

Workmates rushed to McCormack’s aid, turning off the compressed air and packing ice around his swollen neck.

Ambulance officers removed the brass nozzle from his buttock and rushed him to Whakatane Hospital, where a surgeon treated the injury and drained one of his lungs, which had filled with fluid during the ordeal.

McCormack said doctors later told him that the air separated fat from muscle and they were surprised his skin did not burst.

Now recuperating in Whakatane Hospital, he told the Beacon his skin felt “like a pork roast”, hard and crackly on the outside but soft underneath.

A hospital spokeswoman confirmed details of the freak accident, which she said could have killed McCormack.

“It’s fair to say he’s lucky to be alive, it was a potentially life-threatening situation,” she told AFP on Wednesday.

Policeman who used Mugabe’s toilet jailed for 10 days

By KITSEPILE NYATHI in HararePosted Wednesday, June 1 2011 at 15:20

A Zimbabwean police officer accused of using a toilet reserved for President Robert Mugabe has been jailed for 10 days.

The policeman, identified as Sergeant Alois Mabhunu by a local radio station, was tried and convicted by a police internal court on Tuesday.

He was arrested last month for using the toilet that had been specifically designated for the President during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) held in the second city of Bulawayo early May.

Allegations against Mabhunu were that on May 6, he was on duty at the ZITF where President Mugabe was a guest.

He allegedly rushed to answer the call of nature at a toilet reserved for the 87-year-old leader. Some officers guarding the toilet tried to stop him but failed.

He was arrested the following day. As part of the sentence, Mabhunu was also demoted from his post as a homicide detective and transferred to a remote police post.

The murder

The privately owned Radio VOP on Wednesday reported that he had appealed to the police commissioner, General Augustine Chihuri, to overturn the sentence.

Zimbabwe has strict security laws, which make it a serious offence to criticise President Mugabe.

French regulators have reportedly banned broadcasters from using the words Facebook or Twitter on air.
The brand names can be used on TV and radio if a news story is specifically about one of the companies.

But it is thought that constant use of the names is considered to be advertising the products.

A law from 1992 bans the use of surreptitious marketing - and the recent ruling is apparently intended to prevent networks from giving an advantage to the websites.

Some have expressed concern that broadcasters will not be able to direct fans to Facebook and Twitter pages - which are now commonly used to encourage interaction between the audience and programme makers.

Christine Kelly, an advisor to France’s regulatory body the Conseil Superieur de l’Audiovisuel, said there had been a misunderstanding.

“We encourage the use of social networks,” she said.

“There is no question of blocking.”

But, she said people could be more careful when referring to the sites and just tell people to “find us on social networks”.

“Why should we promote a network that is worth billions of dollars like Facebook and not for another one that is having a hard time getting known?” Ms Kelly asked.

She added that it would be “a distortion of competition” to give one social network preference over another.

Leicester City Council ‘not ready’ for zombie attack

The FOI request said “councils across the kingdom” should be prepared for a potential zombie attack

A worried member of the public has forced Leicester City Council to admit it is unprepared for a zombie invasion.

The authority received a Freedom of Information request which said provisions to deal with an attack, often seen in horror films, were poor.

The “concerned citizen” said the possibility of such an event was one that councils should be aware of.

“We’ve had a few wacky ones before but this one did make us laugh,” said Lynn Wyeth, head of information governance.

The Freedom of Information Act allows a right of access to recorded information held by public authorities.

Zombie letter in full

Dear Leicester City Council,

Can you please let us know what provisions you have in place in the event of a zombie invasion? Having watched several films it is clear that preparation for such an event is poor and one that councils throughout the kingdom must prepare for.

Please provide any information you may have.

Yours faithfully,

Concerned Citizen

Ms Wyeth said she was unaware of any specific reference to a zombie attack in the council’s emergency plan, however some elements of it could be applied if the situation arose.

Other submissions to the council have included requests for records of paranormal activity and haunted buildings within the city.

“To you it might seem frivolous and a waste of time
but to different people it actually means something,” said Ms Wyeth.

“Everybody has their own interests and their own reasons for asking these questions.”

She added high-profile cases, such as the MPs expenses scandal, has raised public awareness of the right to request information records.

Ed Thurlow, who runs zombie website Terror4Fun, said he felt a zombie invasion in Leicester was highly unlikely.

“I think perhaps [the “Concerned Citizen”] has watched films like 28 Days Later a few too many times.”

Birmingham City star Liam Ridgewell called off his ÂŁ170,000 wedding by sending a text to guests just eight days before the ceremony.

The defender, 26, had planned to tie the knot with Kirsty Maclaren, 23, in front of 200 people next Saturday.

Instead they sent a message saying it was cancelled.

It read: “It’s not been an easy decision but it is mutual. We ask for your understanding at this hard time.”

The news came 24 hours after Ridgewell’s pal, Aston Villa winger Ashley Young, called off his marriage to Nicky Pike, 26 – just two days before the ceremony.

Young, 25, who is on the verge of a move to Manchester United, refused to comment.

He and Ridgewell became pals while playing at Villa, and were likely to have been at each other’s weddings.
