Wexford GAA 2008

Tony Dempsey, anyone?
As long as he promises to keep his eye on the game and not tell lads who’ve been sent off how to hurl in the second half

Tony Dempsey, anyone?
He didn’t exactly cover himself in glory in 2002, when he decided to go for election to the Dil at the same time as being manager of the Wexford hurlers. To the cynical observer, it smacked of someone who used his high-profile position within the county to boost his political ambitions.

I wasn’t impressed either with his whinging - in the aftermath of the Leinster Final defeat to KK - about having to play Clare in the qualifiers the following week, when he knew about this likely scenario for weeks beforehand. He had a point about the stupidity of scheduling these two games so close together, but his droning on and on about had to have affected players’ morale and the subsequent defeat to Clare seemed to prove this.

Dempsey’s already had his shot at the job and he left it when his political career became more important to him. So, it’s time to look elsewhere, IMO.

Regarding the “Gang of Four” that approached Ger Doyle with their concerns about Meyler: whether they did so under the cloak of anonymity or not, they had better bust a gut next year for Wexford - especially DOC, the 6’3" underachiever who didn’t catch a ball overhead for years until the Waterford game this year.

Regarding Ger Doyle: he should resign over the way he has handled the whole matter over Meyler.

Bandage is right-Think DOC should stick to the football

Jason Ryan is a PE Teacher.
Forde was working in some recruitment agency thing for a construction company. He was one of the boys laid off. I remember a few years ago when he got his all star he was working in a timber yard sawing planks all day.

ah cmon FFS mac

he got a good run in the backline and if it wasn’t for fitzy and darragh saving his bacon on numberous occasions he would have been finished years ago

the game against laois in 05 i think when he got absolutely roasted

he has zero pace and he doesn’t seem to be the most focused or have that awareness of where his man is

in another aside, have you noticed the number of panels that have had the same core group of players who have won fcuk all deciding that the manager got the bullet, surely some of them should be geting the chop from the team ?

surprised he is still out of work…like i said you would think that wexford gaa or some auld big wig below in wexford would give him a handy number as a rep…

does ryan teach in wexford…wasn’t he teaching a club side down there before he got the wexford job…

Yeah he coached Clongeen to their first ever county title last year. He was still a playing member of the Waterford County team at the time too if I remember. He teaches in Waterford. Gave up the county career when he was given the Wexford job.

There’s enough Reps about the place ass it is. Times is hard Puke.

The “Gang of Four” did not approach Ger Doyle. Regardless of what people choose to believe.

The “gang of four” went to talk about the team holidays and had the whole manger position foisted on them by the county board members. My sources say they were asked pretty loaded and leading questions by people who’s mind was already made up.

Mea culpa. A wrong choice of words on my behalf. Substitute “consulted” for “approached”.

IMO (and I suspect yours too) Ger Doyle was the main architect of the fiasco of the past week or so, and should walk as a result.

The last few games i’ve seen DOC play he spent so much time on his arse he reminded me of a retard who’d lost his wheelchair.

Can’t agree Art - do you not remember the All Star nomination in his first season? Any new manager that comes in should build the back line around himself and Rossi.

a nomination for an all star ?!?! clutching at straws there mac

AFAIK darragh was the last wexford defender to win one and that was 01

not a chance of building a chance of building the defence around him

Apt.

What about Kris Boyd?

As Pikeman said, Matty was working in recruitment for Manpower - they’re an agency who specialise in recruiting for the construction sector and he was let go in May. His profile would have helped him to get that role initially and he was working as a carpenter before that as far as I know.

The new Wexford manager won’t be looking to tempt the ageless Larry O’Gorman back into the fold anyway! I was at the Faythe Harriers second string’s Junior A hurling semi-final earlier on and Larry O was in the goal. He was at fault for all 3 goals as the Harriers lost 3-12 to 1-11 after leading 1-5 to nil in the first ten minutes.

A lot of criticism of Doc on here since yesterday evening. I actually saw him in The Wren’s Nest in Wexford town last night and he wasn’t commanding at all. He was standing in a central area in front of the bar but people were walking past him and getting served without any bother whatsoever and he never put in a tackle on anyone.

So, we’ve appointed a committee to select a new hurling manager and it’s led by the Chairman and Secretary and also contains a couple of county board reps in Philip Howlin and Tossy Ryan (father of Darragh), some dude from the supporters club and Skippy Ruth and John Conran have been invited onto it too.

Didn’t bother going to Wexford Park today as I had my fill of getting soaked and freezing my nuts off at the Faythe Harriers game yesterday. I heard Kilanerin defeated defending champions Clongeen in their semi-final clash but I don’t know who won the quarter final replay between Adamstown and Shelmaliers.

In other news, David O’Connor is being interviewed on South East Radio tonight between 6pm and 7pm during the sport hour.

Kilanerin 0-11 Clongeen 1-5
Shelmaliers 1-8 Adamstown 1-6 AET

Great result for the Shels in their first ever year playing senior football and they go on to play Gusserane in the second semi-final next weekend, with the winners due to meet Kilanerin in the final on November 1.
