The Politics of Wexford GAA

News reaches TFK from a completely unreliable third-hand source that Wexford Creamery are privately up in arms over the sponsorship thing. They apparently told Ger Doyle that they couldn’t give 80,000 this year, but they were willing to talk to him on two fronts:

  1. If he got a new offer, they would reduce their money and if the others were willing, they would stay on board, e.g. two sponsors giving 50,000 each rather than getting 80,000 from one; and
  2. If this failed, they were still willing to stay there, albeit giving a reduced amount.

Instead, Ger Doyle went off on another solo-run and publicly announced that Wexford Creamery were pulling out and ending their sponsorship of the county teams. Fair enough, other counties historically have more luctrative sponsorship deals but the whole area of advertising/sponsorship spend is the discretionary type of expenditure companies tend to cut back on in a recession.

As a result, I imagine it’ll be quite difficult to get a new sponsor on board and it might have been wiser for Ger to work away in the background looking for an alternative while keeping Wexford Creamery onside as a fall back option. He landed on his feet when appointing Jason Ryan so let’s see what he comes up with this time.

How did Wexford get on in their challenge match tuesday night against WIT(at least I think it was WIT)

Is bonner still over WIT?

The Wexford players aren’t talking to media unfortunately.

What has that to do with how they got on against WIT in a challenge match bandage…

That doesn’t answer my second question either…Maybe someone who knows a bit about wexford gaa like menapian or nlgggth(sic) might know…

They won’t talk to TFK about their challenge matches and how they’re getting on in these early season games. That’s what’s got to do with it Puke.

But not every wexford supporter on here is an administrator/roving reporter with TFK(yet we can all dream to aspire to this position)…

Blackwater beat Rathnures 2nd side in a replay in the Intermediate final of 2008.

That’s what I was getting at. They’re not speaking to official media sources such as TFK so the only way we’ll find out about these results is some loose talk by panel members.

That will do me fine…Anyone hear a score and if they could find out how Conor Cooney, Enda Barrett, Ger Griffey and Ross Horan hurled fro WIT it would be even better

Wexford won 9-18 to 2-14

they did:rolleyes:

How did the boggers from Clare that Puke’s looking out for play?

They were all taken off after 5 minutes as they were an embarrassment to the game.
Only going on what I was told now.

I could well believe it Horan and griffey are windy as fuck

Think Wexford won by 2-11 to 14 points. Dont know how anyone played though but I heard our half back line was torn apart by the WIT forwards.

Breaking news

Wexford stars grandad deeply disgusted by Late Lates celebration

by Ronan Fagan

A GRANDFATHER of Wexford senior stars Diarmuid and Ciarn Lyng has launched a strong criticism of the manner in which the celebrations of the GAAs 125th Anniversary were launched on RTɒs Late Late Show last Friday night.

Pat Lyng is particularly angered by the poor coverage given to hurling on the three-hour long programme, contending that the production developed into a basic celebration of Dublin and Kerry football.

I am deeply disgusted with the treatment hurling got, he fumes. The whole programme was about Dublin and Kerry football. But when you think about the great teams down through the years like Galways Sen Purcell and the Murrays in Roscommon they were part and parcel of the GAA.

They were talking about the GAA being a 32county Association, but on Friday night it ended up being a 2-county Association.

He questioned the choice of guests, wondering why figures such as former GAA Director General Liam Mulvihill (a man credited with developing the Association to its current high standard) wasnt even acknowledged, and why famed RT commentator, the late Michel OHeir also went unmentioned.

He further alluded to the lack of archive visual content which is normally associated with such presentations.

The most sporting thing I ever saw in Croke Park was probably the Wexford men carrying Christy Ring (the Cork legend) off the pitch in 1956 (after Wexford had won the All-Ireland hurling final). The whole programme was disappointing.

An initial source of frustration for Lyng was the fact that the programme was broadcast from RTEs studios in Dublin and not Hayes Hotel in Thurles, County Tipperary, where the GAA was actually founded in 1884. He declared that it was completely wrong they should have had a camera crew down there.

Indeed, he spoke in high praise of how the Late Late Show had handled the celebrations of the newly developed Opera House in Wexford town. It was a great show, he beamed before exclaiming: They can send a camera to the North Pole, but not to Thurles.

While noting how Brian Cody, the manager of current hurling kings Kilkenny, wasnt available for the show as he was in America on the team holiday Lyng points out that there are other great people who could have been on the panel, such as Liam Griffin. Look who they had on the panel, for Gods sake.

For the record, the guests included musician Brush Shields; RT newsreader Eileen Dunne (a daughter of the stations first major sports presenters, the late Mick Dunne); Kerry greats Pat Spillane, Mick ODwyer, Jack OShea, Pid S and current player Darragh S; Dublin legends Kevin Heffernan, Jimmy Keaveney and Kevin Moran; Meath football managerial colossus San Boylan; RT sports presenters Michel Muircheartaigh, Des Cahill and Michael Lyster, together with the now retired and well loved Sen g Ceallachin; Tyrones Peter Canavan and Brian Dooher (manager Mickey Harte was in attendance, but not interviewed); Eamonn Dunphy and former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern; current, former and future GAA Presidents Nickey Brennan. Peter Quinn and Christy Cooney respectively.

The only specific reference to hurling involved chats with Kilkenny hurling legends Eddie Keher and Henry Shefflin together with Tipperary hurling All-Ireland winning player and manager, Michael Babs Keating.

Notably there werent any contributions from the Camogie nor the Ladies Football bodies, and on the topic of the ration of coverage afforded to hurling, Lyng suggested: Maybe they could do two hours on the hurling as well; they only gave ten minutes to hurling on Fridays show, and I still havent cooled down, he said while speaking on South East Radios Sports Hour last Saturday evening.

Brush fucking Shields - now there somebody who was forgotten on the cunts thread.

I missed this but I’m sure the parents will give me the low-down when I get home again.

PS. “part & parcel of the GAA” must be the favourite interview saying of every ex gaa star

Ha-thats true alright.

Seriously, who actually gives a shit about a Late Late special other than anyone over the age of 70?
