Wexford GAA 2009

Usually about 4 or 5 on the Antrim team.

Iā€™m not sure if theyā€™ll be available but McKeegan and McManus would be two of the main lads on the county team too. McManus is a superb player and is very versatile. Yer man Aidan Delargy also got a few points against us when they nearly beat us in 2003 and he got 0-3 yesterday. I donā€™t know if heā€™s still involved. Yer man McCambridge only came on yesterday but he got a few points and his brother, who was playing in defence, has been a regular with Antrim. Iā€™m not sure about the rest of them to be honest.

yeah I was at it alright. Counsel played against the wind in the first half and Declan Murohy got a goal very early on and Counsel held that advantage all the way through. They took some excellent scores in the first half, and the full forward line of Aylward, Matt Crowdle and Murphy destroyed the Peters full back line. Their touch was excellent, very good control and this was basically the difference in the sets of forwards. They wasted nothing in the first half while Peters hit a lot of wides and should have had a few more points on the board. It was about 1-7 to 6 points or so at half time.

The tackling from the Counsel backs was very good. The hooking and blocking was really good, and Miley and PJ obviously have them doing a lot of work on that. Teh full back line dominated to the same extent that the fullforward line did, and didnt give the Peters lads a sniff of the ball. James Breen was very solid under any high ball and was letting nothing through. Matthew O Hanlon at centre back was good, but very very loose on his man, and wouldnt get away with it on other days. He was very good on the ball, but didnt really play as a defender. Cashin hit most of his scores from frees, other than one excellent point where he caught a high ball on the 21 and Benny Barron broke his hurl off Cashins arm pulling on him and Cashin just sent the sliothar high and over his shoulder straigh over the bar.

Peters played the second half with Brian Doyle further out the field to try cope against the wind, and while they did a bit in stages, they never really troubled the Counsel goal, and Aylward had a chance to finsih the game but Fanning made a good save in goal. Couple of minutes later tho and he took his second chance on goal and killed the game off completely.

Dickie Murphy rarely blew the whislte and let a lot go from both sides. Was a good entertaining game, if not overly skillful. Counsel definitely had the better players and looked far more sharper which I didnt expect given they play the football final next week.

teams were: Counsel- Kevin Kehoe (St Mullins), Colm Foran, James Breen, Ian Duggan (Mā€™vat), Joe Lyng (Rower), Matt O Hanlon, Michael Furlong, Michael Curtis, Syl Barron, Alan Nolan, James Cashin (Rower), Wally Walsh (Tullogher), Ger Aylward (Glenmore), Matt Crowdle, Dec Murphy.

Peters - Mark Fanning, Brian Tobin, Kevin Whelan, Aidan Cash, Barry O Gorman, Benny Barron, James Gordon, Willie Deveroux, Eoin Whitmore, Liam Og McGovern (Dublin) Michael O Reegan, Paudie Kelly, Cormac Foley, Dean Wright, Brian Doyle.

Surprised to see Ian Duggan at corner back for GCC,ive seen him hurl 20 times for Mullinavat but only ever in the forwards,GCC have a long tradition in hurling lads completely out of position. How did my other clubmate Joe Lyng go?,hes a seriously hardy bit of stuff,an amatuer jockey aswell.

Iā€™m nearly sure Duggan was corner back, he was wearing 2 anyway, but Colm Foran started in place of Lorcan French who was named wing forward, and there was some reshuffling of players where Alan Nolan moved from Midfield to the wing from what I could see, and Michael Furlong went half back a,d Curtis to midfield. cant really remember exactly tho.

Lyng was solid enough, tough player alright. Was yellow carded I think too for a tough tackle. A few wild pulls from both sides throughout but nothing you wouldnt expect from a Counsel Peters game.

Just past by Sports Savers are they are advertising for pre-booking of new Wexford Jerseys which will be on Sale from March 13th ā€¦ with a big ? over what the design will be

Art Foley will be happy to see DOC dropped.

what? theyā€™re not building a defence around him

there saving him to play as a impact full forward again ā€¦

the worst fucking idea since recruiting stoney burke.

You prefer DOC in the backs then foley rather than the forwards?

thereā€™s always C pikeman !

Whats that Art?

like the health service: no doc

ah hed make a good bench warmer

Harsh Art. Heā€™s our best option at Centre Back. Taking him out of there is going to mess things up again.

oh right, cos weā€™re rock solid at the fullback line

So youā€™d put him at Full Back then would you?
