Wexford GAA 2009

has a feeling appendage is so bitter as might be from the duffryā€¦ it is the ocunty board fault they didnt put the team in the higher grade ā€¦ which normally happens when teams almagateā€¦ so i think you need to bring you the matter to the coiste na n-og fixtures commitee if you feel so stronglyā€¦ i know the matter was brought to local press following them beating clongeenā€¦
there was at least 2 17 years starting yesterday for the combination team one whom only turned 17 in i think november evenā€¦
A bit unfair Kevin, Iā€™m hurt at that really.

Iā€™ve no objection to teams amalgamating but they should do it in a fair way and not a medal grabbing way as was the case in this instance.
Somebody has to win. They were graded in the grade to give themselves a chance (i presume). Now you have stated they struggled to beat other teams, so they clearly werenā€™t ā€œway too goodā€ for other teams, thus they were in the right grade.
Its have one good team than two groups of players not getting a game at all.
Your showing a real poor understanding of the reason for sport here Appendage.

struggle as an understatement caomhaoin they won semi final in extra time by a goal scored in the dying minutesā€¦

oh on note of the wexford vs kildare game think bandage said he was travelling to it so hopefully heā€™ll be able to tell us of new blood that was on show that has a hope of making the championship squad

What exactly was wrong with the statement? They were known from ages ago to be too strong for the grade and only in it because of some relevant connections.

Obviously if 2 utterly shit teams are joined then they should be graded appropriately.

However, these 2 together were not shit and that was well known.

Coiste na nOg have no authority of u21, its run but adult co shambles, I mean board.

And Ger Doyle chaired the adult convention, so there.
and only in it because of some relevant connections.
?

wonders what the relvant connection is as there is nobody from either club high in county board that comes to mindā€¦

also i realised since that my source listening skills arent the best adn it was in fact the coiste n-og agm in which ger doyle missed

Shocker.

A sad sympton of how GGA is run in the county though. Iā€™m being a bit harsh on the players I feel but its the adults that run the ship are the problem.

That sort of shit is rife in Wexford GGA at all levels. Human nature I suppose.

No hassle CG but you were very adamant even though you were completely and utterly wrong. You must really be a woman/girl.

that becuase i didnt hear different till i read the standard/echo the following wednesday ā€¦

Are you NCC in disguise?

No that was Gavin I believe

Made it to Newbridge for the last 25 mins of todays game. Not a lot to report really. Very experimental team. Brian Malone, Ciaran Deeley and Shane Cullen were the only 3 who started that Iā€™d expect to be starting during the summer. Most of the attacks seemed to go through Cullen and he struggled by not having more confident scoring forwards around him. Wexford got it to 2 points with about 8 mins left but had a few attacks that came to nothing - low balls being played in and the forward not getting out in front and Kildare just pulled away then for the rest of the game. From speaking to lads there it seemed that the final score was a fair reflection of Kildares dominance.

Wouldnt be worried about the loss but would be worried about the lack of fight and effort. Gary Brilly was brought on and then taken off again. Not sure who else started and who else was brought on as I missed the first half. The subs who I know for definite didnt start were Peter Hughes and Graham Molloy. Think thereā€™s gonna be highlights of the game on the news.

Again, I agree fully with Appendage here - a senior team and an intermediate team joining forces to play in the lower grade is ridiculous. Either amalgamate and play in the higher grade or play on your own in the lower grade. And whatā€™s this total and utter bullshit about maybe having to play minor players if they played separately. So fooking what. Youā€™d swear a 17 or 18 year-old was incapable of playing with lads 2 or 3 years older than them. Joke.

Anyway, I went to Newbridge today for the Wexford game. I made sure to sit in a little enclave of Wexford supporters because I didnā€™t want to risk sitting beside some local who possibly has intimate knowledge of Jo Jo Dollardā€™s last movements.

Our team was very experimental and it was (using programme numbers but these were the positions):

 1. Tom Hughes (Kilanerin)
 2. Brian Malone (Shelmaliers)
 3. Clive Lawlor (Shelmaliers)
 4. Conor Murphy (St Maryā€™s Rosslare)
 5. Adrian Flynn (Gusserane)
 6. Shane Cullen (Gusserane) 0-1
 7. Aindreas Doyle (Taghmon-Camross)
 8. Paul Oā€™Leary (Blackwater)
 9. Daithi Waters (St Martinā€™s)
 10. Ben Brosnan (Bannow-Ballymitty) 0-1
 11. Ciaran Deely (Horeswood) 0-1
 12. Sean Oā€™Neill (Ballhogue)
 13. Gary Brilly (Starlights)
 14. Jason Murphy (Sarsfields) 0-5 (0-2F)
 15. Pat Naughter (Realt na Mara) 0-1

We were losing by 1-5 to 0-5 at half time despite Kildare having more of the play. Spot Murphy kicked three excellent points from play for us in the first half. Heā€™s a talented lad and a really good soccer player too but is a bit nuts. He was involved with Wexford Youths FC in their debut season until Mick Wallace cut ties with him for calling Pat Dolan a ā€˜fat cuntā€™ in the dressing room after one particular game.

We then went 1-7 to 0-5 down before we got a run of four points without reply to come back to within one (two frees from Murphy, one very good one from Deely and the last from Shane Cullen after he moved up to centre forward). However, we won fook all ball around midfield in the last 15 minutes and they scored the last five points to ease away.

Tom Hughes was alright in goal - decent handling, was beaten in a one versus one. Brian Malone had a very good game bar giving away an easy pointed free near the end for two hops. Clive Lawlor was solid enough but Conor Murphy struggled. Poor distribution from him coming out with the ball cost us 1-1.

Adrian Flynn wasnā€™t at his best and went off in the first half with an ankle injury. Peter Hughes came on and wasnā€™t too impressive either. Shane Cullen was quite good at the back and tried to do some playmaking when he went forward but had few options. Aindreas Doyle was okay and worked hard.

The two lads in midfield were outplayed. Daithi Waters went off late in the first half with concussion and Brendan Doyle came on. Graeme Molloy came on for Oā€™Leary in the second half.

Ben Brosnan was decent at times but faded in the second half. Sort out your hair too son - youā€™re not in Summer Bay. Deely worked hard and linked the play well enough. Sean Oā€™Neill wasnā€™t really a factor and went off injured after colliding with a team-mate. Collie Byrne replaced him and wasnā€™t much cop.

Gary Brillyā€™s not really up to much - no offence to the lad. Spot Murphy kicked his first point from full forward before moving to left half forward to leave a two-man full forward line, with Deely playing the roaming role. He kicked another two smashing points after that, one from over 50 yards out, but heā€™s not one for tracking back and covering the overlapping wing back - their best player Michael Conway burst forward for 3 points from play himself from wing back, 2 when Spot wasnā€™t arsed running back with him. Pat Naughter has a bit of pace and got a decent point but himself and Brilly werenā€™t really a threat.

Manager watch: Jason did plenty of posturing, posing and shouting to make himself noticed and kept the squad out in a huddle on the pitch at the end while pointing dramatically and forcibly.

We now enter the shield competition and I believe weā€™ve a home tie next week.

Bandage - who was the number 22 that came on for Brilly? Didnt have a programme and couldnt make out who he was. Fair lump of a lad too.

Forgot about that sub near the end - it was James Holmes of Castletown.

I see on the Limerick GAA thread that it appears David Coldrick was linked up to a microphone for TV. I meant to mention his performance in my initial post even before I read about it. Heā€™s a sensible ref and one of the better ones in the country.

He used common sense, spoke clearly to the players when he was giving them a ticking to inform them that another foul would see them off and he didnā€™t send anyone off all game.

It seems other refs around the country were handing cards out left, right and centre. And it all comes back to consistent application of the rules again.

poor response to appendage destroying you again

puke- bandage can confirm that im not Gavin

Crowd was decent. Few thousand Iā€™d say. As Bandage alluded to, we play in the Oā€™Byrne shield now. Not sure when.

Weā€™ve a home tie in the shield next weekend.

I actually can confirm that NCC and Gavin are two different posters but Gavinā€™s not been around in ages.
