Wexford GAA 2010

Thinly veiled “I don’t want to come back for the turkey shoot but I’ll be back to help the lads coast through the qualifiers and take all the glory”

Wexford boss Colm Bonnar has suffered a double injury blow ahead of Sunday week’s Leinster SHC opener against Galway with confirmation that Richie Kehoe and Willie Doran are both ruled out.

Key defender Kehoe damaged his lateral knee ligament during Faythe Harriers’ drawn SHC clash with Oylegate-Glenbrin last Sunday, while Doran was unable to line out for Buffer’s Alley because of an elbow injury.

“Richie has been diagnosed with lateral knee ligament damage and the injury will keep out for four weeks. He’ll have a further scan this week. Should it be more serious he’ll be out for longer,” Bonnar explained.

“We had hoped that Willie would have been able to get a game last weekend. He’s taking longer to recuperate from his dislocated elbow than we expected. He’s also now out of the championship opener.”

But Bonnar is keeping his fingers crossed that both Paul Roche and PJ Nolan will be fit for the Nowlan Park clash.

"Paul has a hamstring which forced him to retire in the league final. He had not trained for three weeks in the lead up to the final and has not trained since.

“PJ has had a horrible time with injuries. Just back from a shoulder problem he aggravated a quad muscle when coming on as a sub against Carlow. He has been unable to train. We just hope both will come right over the coming week for they are four-week injury problems. We’ll just have to wait and hope for both Paul and PJ,” the former Tipperary star added.

Not Willie Doran!

I see the co board, under the watchful eye of the chairman and secretary made a draw for the gaelscoil scholarships.

Buffers Alley
Davidstown-Courtnacuddy
Gusserane-ORahillys
Naomh Eanna
Rapparees-Starlights
Oulart- the Ballagh
Volunteers

that is all!

Wow and Outlart came out. I AM shocked!!!

Paddy Wickham’s influence still not gone I see

We’re properly fucked without Richie Kehoe - I’ll be going to that game primarily for the piss up now.

Ya he’s a loss infairness, not Willie Doran though, not at all. What would your team be at the moment?

Hard to pick at the moment really, Gavin. Obviously we really need Roche to be fit now with Richie out as our defence will come under a lot of pressure with the options they have in attack. I would have considered Waters and Doran for wing forward if they were available so PJ Nolan needs to get himself fit for that position now. I’d be thinking along the lines of:

Carton,
Roche, Rossiter, Prendergast,
Travers, Stamp, Kenny,
Farrell, H Kehoe,
Nolan, Quigley, Lyng,
R Jacob, Banville, Atkinson.

As Mac says, you could play Mick Jacob wing back and leave Kenny in the corner where he played in the league. But he was primarily put there to do a specialist job on Honan. Whatever happens, Travers needs to be out the field and not in the corner. Mick Jacob could also be considered for a position in the forwards, which is where he’s been given a run since he came back. I hope Atkinson can deliver on the championship stage but I’d consider M Jacob for his position and maybe leave R Jacob and Banville inside as an inside two.

What do you think?

Horeswood: Official Opening & Seven-a-Side Football Tournament (Sponsored by Azzurri Sports)

Official Opening

Over the past five years Horeswood G.A.A. Club has engaged in an extensive development project. This June Bank Holiday weekend sees all the work come to fruition with the Official Opening. On 5th June at 7 p.m. the President of the G.A.A., Christy Cooney, will cut the ribbon. This will be followed by a Senior hurling challenge match between Wexford and Limerick.

The list of work done by the club is extensive and provides the twenty-eight teams who operate under the Club’s umbrella with facilities that are a match with any in the country.

Our indoor centre consists of a pitch (56m x 27m), dressing rooms and showers, a meeting room, a viewing gallery and a childcare centre. The latter is a state of the art pre- and after-school facility and is proving to be of great benefit to the community.

The Club has also erected pitch-side lighting, an expanded car park, a gym, a glass back wall in the handball alley, a new entrance, refurbished dressing rooms, additional showers and an ice bath.

Sevens (Sponsored by Azzurri Sports)

As part of the Club’s weekend events we are proud to announce the inaugural running of a national seven-a-side football tournament: the Horeswood Sevens, with sixteen teams competing. Eight are from Wexford, eight from other counties. Clubs from outside Wexford that have agreed to compete are: Nemo Rangers (Cork), Gaultier (Waterford), Arles-Kilcruise (Laois), Kildavin-Clonegal (Carlow), St. Malachy’s (Westmeath), Graiguecullen (Laois), Mt. Leinster Rangers (Carlow) and St. Brigid’s (Dublin). Gusserane, Clongeen, Bannow-Ballymitty, Fethard, Adamstown, Taghmon-Camross, Starlights and Horeswood comprise the home contingent.

The tournament is kindly sponsored by Azzurri Sports who will introduce their new, fully approved football.

Teams will be divided into four groups of four. The top two teams will qualify for the Cup, the next two will qualify for the Shield. Games will then proceed on a knockout basis. The final will take place at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Each game will be sixteen minutes in duration. (See schedule).

The Remedees will provide live music on Saturday from 9 p.m. followed by a disco. Paddy Murphy will provide live music outside from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. This will be followed by a disco for which admission will be free.

A barbecue, beer tent, shop, teas, etc and novelty attractions for all ages will operate throughout the weekend.

We look forward to seeing you.

oh yeah too good for us james’ the snobby fookers

Jayz, a whole day of football!
I could think of nothing worse.
The hurling match should bring some excitement to the day at least.

pppffft. didnt want to bring the standard down with intermediates…

Sure Taghmon, Fethard and Clongeen will be Intermediate anyhow next year while the James’ will be well on the way to their first SFC title.

just dont choke, AGAIN, this year! :stuck_out_tongue:

Wexford gave kildares seconds a bit of roasting last night

Did you head down Padjo? Score?

I see Kieran Kennedy’s out for the summer with a fractured cheekbone. What was the score in Kildare last night? I fear for us a bit ahead of the Dublin game - I think there’s quite a gap between top of Division One and our level.
