Wexford Doc steps down after 25 years
06 March 2013
The Wexford senior hurling team doctor, Stephen Bowe has stepped down after 25 years in the role.
Dr Bowe followed in the footsteps of his father, who was the team doctor for Wexford for 25 years also, bringing the Bowe family’s association to Wexford GAA up to 50 years.
However, an internal dispute has resulted in Dr Bowe stepping down from the position and in doing so ending a long tradition.
Wexford GAA chairman Diarmuid Devereux had stated at a county board meeting that the doctor stepped down after a dispute with another member of the medical team.
Dr Bowe feels that the GAA must look at their guidelines regarding the personnel that treat injured players.

Eoin Moore must be injured now too. O’Shaughnessy is skillful and can pick off scores - not sure how strong he is at winning what boggers call “dirty ball”.

That football team shows two changes from last weekend - Masterson back in goal for Hughes and Murphy replacing Chin, who’s playing for the hurlers in Offaly. I’d have liked to see Hughes get some more game-time. He didn’t have any saves to make or high balls around the square to deal with last weekend so it’d be worthwhile to see more of him - his kick-out was fine though. I don’t know if there’ll be further changes to the team that’s been announced but I don’t think it’d be any harm to freshen things up a bit more after last week’s flat display and the fact it’s our third successive weekend in action. That said, I’ve been going on about us lacking squad depth so they’re perhaps wary of making too many changes. We lack options at midfield with Bradley and Boccy retired / left out and Shore with the hurlers - we only really have Doyle and Quinlivan competing to partner Waters. I might head along to Drogheda to watch our 1-16 to 0-10 defeat.
