I saw that and I alluded to it earlier on the thread. I didn’t know he had a background playing in goal until my great pal @Monkey Allen mentioned it to me. Are you going to bother supporting the footballers this season?

I think I will. They are frustrating but I think there’s potential for a good run this year…

Colm kehoe/keogh has kicked a few scores inall games this year, and some younger faces are starting to get some game.

The addition of some professional sports science advice ( pro bono from QPR) may stand to them.

Wexford - S Roche; S Gaul, G Molloy, C Carty; B Malone, M Furlong, T Rossiter; Cillian Kehoe (0-1), P Byrne; Colm Kehoe (0-2), G Cullen, B Brosnan (0-4, 2f); C Lyng (0-1), J Holmes (0-1), K O’Grady (0-7, 5f). Subs: PJ Banville for O’Grady, B O’Gorman for Cullen, R Dempsey for Lyng, K Day for Holmes.

The above is the team from yesterday. Plenty of new faces which is great. Don’t know a whole lot about Furlong, Rossiter or Cullen. Anyone care to give me some info on them?

Furlong played corner back in the championship last year and was solid. Was also used as a half forward during the league.

Cullen is Shane Cullen’s younger brother as far as I know. Was on the Under 21 team last year.

Rossiter - not so sure. Think he’s from Rosslare or New Ross or somewhere with a prominent “r” in the name.

Mick Furlong who played all of last year? And Rossiter who played league games too? Both came from the Leinster winning U21 side.

Graeme Cullen is Shanes younger brother, was U21 last year.

Tiernan Rossiter is Rosslare @Bandage, has a brother on the Co minor football team too.

Rossiter plays corner/wing forward for Rosslare and is skilful enough a bit light.

A midfield pairing of Kehoe and Byrne wouldnt inspire great confidence.

Mick Furlong was the find of last season, may be a bit small for CB. Nice to see Sean Gaule get a run, would like to see hi given a game at FB and maybe try Molloy at centre back and see how he went there.

KOG with 5 frees, would have been handy in the co. final :mad:

I thought Rossiter was a half back/corner back though in the county set up?

Is O Regan in yet or whats the story there?

KOG good with the frees alright, but I read they had 9 wides in the first half, hardly any of his? See how he would have done if it was the Byrne cup final!

Could well be Gman, The last is aw of him for the co. was on the bench for co. u21’s two years ago so wouldnt be that well informed.

Dont know what the story is with O’Regan but i imagine he would be playing for his college team at present.

ah yeah, keep forgetting about the cunts that have to play with college teams.

Didn’t realise it was Mick Furlong. Thanks lads. Who are the 3 lads that came on that aren’t PJ Banville. Is the O’Gorman lad from Taghmon?

yeah O’Gorman is from taghmon a citeog i think was u21 last year.

Dempsey is from glynn, not sure about Day, town team maybe.

O’Regan is injured I think. Hasnt been played with UCD in any of their games anyway.

New sponsor announced. Gain Feeds part of Glanbia have signed a 3-year deal. We are back.

was this their last sponsorship deal?

they usually have a big red logo, but managed to change it for the Waterford Jersey. here’s hoping they can change colours again rather than have another abomination of a sponsors colour not suiting a jersey colour.

Excellent - God be with the days that the sponsored the Co finals. *

  • do they still sponsor the Co finals?

How many counties are Glanbia involved with now? Aren’t Avonmore part of the group?

Anything that gets rid of that Sports Savers abomination off the jersey has to be a positive.

Good to hear, the sports saver stuff was awful.

Any amounts being mentioned?

PLEEEASE no big ugly box on the front of the new jersey obliterating the county colours.
Offaly’s recent BIG RED SQUARE containing “Caroll’s Meats” was also an abomination, and was eventually replaced with just the writing, which is an infinite improvement.

Just the sponsor’s name over the jersey colours, or no 50 quid shall I fork out …

Thanks.

General update courtesy of our local newspapers:

Senior Hurling

  • We beat Galway by 1-21 to 1-16 last weekend.
  • A number of last year’s minors are in the squad such as Kevin Foley, Liam Ryan and Conor Devitt (along with Conor McDonald too, of course).
  • We have a Walsh Cup quarter final on Saturday against NUIG in Gorey.
  • Eoin Moore was due to undergo an ankle operation today and will be out for 6 weeks.
  • Jack Guiney, Matthew O’Hanlon and Garrett Sinnott will be lining out with UCD in the Walsh Cup, while Liam McGovern and Willie Devereux will be taking part with DIT.
  • Tomás Waters has started his rehab after his series of knee operations and lengthy hospital stays.

Minor Hurling

  • New manager Larry Coleman is leaving players with the colleges for January and is commencing group training in early February.
  • The combined colleges team plays its first championship game this weekend.
  • St Peter’s Wexford take on Good Counsel New Ross in a traditional Wexford v Kilkenny clash in a couple of weeks.

Senior Football

  • Didn’t realise Ciarán Lyng scored a hat-trick in our defeat against UCD last week - the first Wexford senior footballer to score a hat-trick since Mattie Forde v Galway all those years ago.

Club Football

  • Former Laois footballer Barry Brennan has joined St Fintan’s. He’s a Wexford based Garda and they’ll be in senior this season after two successive promotions.

Transfers

  • A distinct lack of transfer activity in Wexford town this year after they changed the rules at convention. Very upsetting.
