Wexford GAA 2014

I suppose they can, pal. But I’m taking a 2-month prediction holiday.

Guys, I’m still quite upset about yesterday. It’s a bit like Clare’s loss in the provincial semi-final last year with the raft of botched goal chances and novicey kind of mistakes. Can we regroup and win a few games?

How is Dunne fixed for a spot of strawberries and cream up at his?

Log out there for an hour like a good chap.

Presumably taking place as I touch the screen of my phone.

Still a bit bemused at Wexford’s response to Keaney going from the full forward to the half forward line to leave 2-men inside just after our goal. The likes of McCrabbe and Cronin roamed deep and McCaffrey drifted back to the half forward line too.

Didn’t see the point of leaving Rossiter spare inside while they used their numerical advantage further out the field to either pop points over from distance or work it upfield in a measured way.

It effectively meant their “extra” player was a key factor and Rossiter was bypassed. With Liam Ryan being so secure and O’Hanlon doing okay (albeit shipping a couple of scores to Ryan), we could have either pushed onto them or brought one of our forwards deeper like they did to ensure we weren’t outnumbered in the middle third.

Just a bit of inexperience and panic i thought. Two frees given away for lads picking it off the deck showed over eagerness. Terrible shots too but experience will fix that. Ryan is exceptional and should be there for years. Ye have way more talent coming through than dublin but midfield killed ye.

There was no response pal. That was the problem.

Ger Cushe was telling Rossiter to play in front of the two man-markers but to funnel back to make 3 on 2 if the ball was played in long. I could hear his instructions from my vantage point on The Clonard End terrace.

Wexford’s big problem area is 5-9. Not sure what the best configuration is, would imagine it involves both Moore and Redmond starting. Was impressed with Fanning, he’s a little on the small side and he wasn’t called on for any superhero heroics, but he does all the basics well. Full back line was rock solid. Doran did some things well but needs to tidy up his stickwork, butchered two goal chances. McDonald looks the real deal at full forward, McGovern and Morris were lively enough, Morris a touch one sided though. Guiney needs a kick up the arse or else be dropped and Jacob was at his most infuriating.

Draw can determine a lot in qualifiers. If you look at the two teams who’ve won the All Ireland without reaching a provincial final, Tipperary in 2010 and Clare 2013, both got a nice enough run of games to rehabilitate themselves and sort out problem areas after both were decisively beaten by Cork in the Munster Championship. In 2010, Tipperary faced a Wexford side at the nadir of the Colm Bonnar era and then Offaly to get to the quarter finals. Last year, it was a 50/50 shout as to whether it was Clare or Tipperary who were going to Nowlan Park to suffer the Kilkenny backlash. Tipperary drew the short straw and Clare got Laois in Ennis. I have little doubt if Clare had drawn Kilkenny after the second half thrashing they got from Cork in Limerick, that would have marked the end of their summer.

Look on the bright side you have the qualifiers to.look forward too.

Yeah, I picked my preferred starting team during the week and had Moore and Redmond at half back with Chin released to midfield. Moore would have started had he not suffered that ankle ligament injury 3-4 weeks ago.

Shore’s positional sense and decision making was a bit questionable at centre back and O’Keeffe didn’t have one of his better games in midfield. Ian Byrne will be pushing for Guiney’s place, as will Garrett Sinnott. The latter missed the entire league and struggled to get into it when introduced. Obviously the more games and training the better he’ll get.

a few thoughts on yesterday’s game…

Dublin didnt create a clear cut goal chance, unfortunately they really didnt have to…

Our midfield was shocking, d o’keefe never seemed to get going, i think a combination of chin and liam og could serve us well…

4 short puck outs…to let them get away with one is too many…

We never adjust to their 4 man half fwd line, as alluded to by @Bandage

Podge Doran appears extremely awkward

basically nothing that hasnt been said already

I dunno pal. I think we made a total balls of it.

A superior team and indeed county. We effectively lost Conal Keaney.

surely the charade of playing Chin anywhere but midfield is over? He scored a point and made another shortly after he went to midfield

Shore is a big strong honest type of fellow. Bottom line though is I don’t rate him as an inter-county standard centre back. I like the look of Liam Ryan. Reminds me of Brian Corcoran in 1992 straight out of minor and wearing the Number 2 jersey. It wasn’t long before Corcoran was hurling centre back. Surely Rhys Clarke should be in the match day 26.

He had Keaney relatively quiet, should have put him man marking him. Dublin aren’t hard to stop, follow Keaney and don’t give away frees

I don’t anyone think had the measure of Keaney at any stage in the game. The only stage they might have had was when ball wasn’t coming his way and even then keaney went looking for it. Put Chin midfield and he will drive wexford forward - then they wouldn’t have to worry about defending keaney!

WElcome return to @gaamad1996 , exams done and dusted sport?

Thanks Count, just one left on Thursday.

Anyone else think the kids were asked to leave the pitch at half time due to Sky? It’s normal practice for them to request that kids don’t play on the pitch at half time because of cuntish parents that use it as an opportunity to bring insurance claims.

I’ve often heard the announcer thank the sponsors too.
