Wexford GAA 2014

Dunno, pal. I got absolutely pissed last night, ignored my alarm this morning and didn’t go to the game. I displayed outstanding commitment (akin to the sacrifices our inter-county players make) to surface at around 1.30pm. A draw was the ideal result really - I feel like I haven’t really missed anything other than an incredibly dramatic match. Like @Appendage, I’ll probably go to the replay if it’s in Wexford Park.

I’d say this could be a first, did anyone at all from the forum go to that fucking hell hole today? My aul lad went there, but I unfortunately couldnt make the trip. Not sure I would have bothered even if I could though!

What’s the general feeling on Dunne in Wexford? Is he seen as a shrewd operator on the sideline or more of a fire and brimstone motivational type?
Real pity ye couldn’t finish them off today. Only saw bits of it as I was coming from the football but the bits I did see Wexford wasted a lot of chances. Could have been out of sight 10 mins into the second half.

Can @gaamad1996 save the day?

being honest, I wouldnt have thought of him as being that shrewd. He was over Oulart teams that made some horrendous errors in Leinster campaigns, and he was over a minor team that had 2 extra men against Galway and still ended up losing it from being ahead. His comments in general would make me facepalm a lot. But I dont know, maybe in the dressing room and on the field he is a different type and could well be. I dont know anything at all about his training methods or his tactically awareness, but from afar, I wouldnt be that impressed. Twice against Dublin in championship he hasnt been able to cope with very basic tactics set up by the opposition.

Maybe today might be the change in fortunes we needed. I thought tactically today we were very good, and the gameplan seemed solid. Some poor skills based errors cost us really

My Dad and brother were at it too but at least the team showed up. It’s gas - a big buzz before the Dublin game and a lot of support; we lose that and fuck all of us go to the next game; but there’ll be a massive crowd next week if it’s in Wexford Park.

I was in the park. A hell hole for visitors it may be but who gives a fuck and the atmosphere in there on a championship day is about as good as any other stadium.

I was in a hopsital for the Antrim game, abroad for the Dublin game, coming back from hospital for this one, and will be at a wedding next week. Never had as many reasons for missing games as I have this year. Dont have kids! they’ll destroy your attendance records!

Cant beat Wexford for the bandwagon though. In fairness, if this game was on in the Park I’d say it would have had a decent crowd too. the draw ensures it will be even better next week though. That U21 game being off will make a big difference too. Dublin wont be happy over it though I’d say.

Indefinitely?

If the seniors win the replay and the next game they’ll be going till the end of July.

you’re from Clare though, you dont count!

Disagree with ye on taking the point for the penalty being the right call chaps. That was the chance to end it all right there. Was always a good chance that Clare would pull a goal out of somewhere given how hard we were pressing for it.

Wexford had plenty of other goal chances though. With a bit more composure they could have won it in 70 minutes with a degree of comfort.

Morris wouldn’t have the shot the score a penalty from 20m into the wind. He was dead right. Clare weren’t pressing that hard for a goal and when it did come it was more of a cluster fuck. A blind hand pass and a needless foul. Did Fanning have a save to make outside the ones he conceded?

Also Morris was correct at the end to take his point, he was running out of steam and looked to me like he would’ve been caught before goaling.

Agreed. It was a very poor decision to go for the point from the penalty. That was the time to finish the game off. They gave Clare a lifeline there.

Total bs lad.

Unlucky for you then innit.

I’m delighted for Wexford mate. Those decisions were critical errors. They should have won that match.

They weren’t errors. He called it right. I’m going to tit for tat mbb style like this all night.

Wexford defender on the line for the penalty was very unlucky to slip after saving it. Would have surely blocked the rebound otherwise.

Agree thoroughly on both counts, pal. The new rule on striking allied to the wind were on my mind when the penalty was awarded. Seemed fairly logical to push the lead out to 4 points at that late stage. Morris didn’t seem to have the legs to hone in on goal at the end alright either.

Fanning didn’t have to deal with other efforts on goal aside from the two goals. O’Hanlon was unlucky to stumble after making the initial penalty save too.

thats what you get playing on an inferior surface. old school dirt small squares there.

I’d also agree with @Appendage on the penalty. Tap it over. there were other decisions during the game that were worse than that one.
