Wexford GAA 2014

Sad stuff.

But he is dragging this one out way too long now.

I think the Wexford jersey is very good

Chin has committed to the hurlers only this year. Nice one

Great news, for the footballers.

Chin left a sinking ship. Football is dead (except the minor team of course, long live the minor team)

au contraire, Wexford will be contesting the Leinster Football final this year.

Not a loss, very average footballer.

What about the rest of the Oulart lads? Social tonight is hardly an excuse…

Busted flush

Eoin Moore had an ankle operation last week. Garrett Sinnott and Shaun Murphy were hurling in The Walsh Cup with UCD and DIT respectively. David Redmond was on the bench last week - maybe he’s injured. Can’t think of other Oulart players in the senior set up at the moment.

The Combined Wexford Colleges have just defeated their Laois counterparts by 2-14 to 1-14 away from home after extra time. So they advance to the main draw proper after two preliminary round victories over the last two weekends.

I can’t believe @briantinnion’s match report from earlier has disappeared but anyway, we were beaten by a point but plenty of encouragement. Lined out with a clatter of changes from the starting 15. I think it was something along the lines of

Fanning

Tonks, Rossi, Kenny
Shore, Chin, Kehoe
Jordan, O’Keefe
Tomkins, Morris, Byrne,
Moore, Clarke, Foley

Good chance I had a few of them wrong as didn’t have a programme. In short there was plenty of encouraging signs in the first half. Paul Morris has bulked up a bit and created a fair few chances. Ian Byrne was deadly accurate. I missed the first few mins so didn’t see our goal. Dublin came back into it midway through the first half but we closed out the half well to lead by 4 at half time. There was a noticable lack of useless high balls into the forwards from the backs in the first half which was encouraging.

Dublin scored something like 1-3 without response before we got back level. We had no rhythm whatsoever and Dublin completely controlled things for much of the 2nd half. We had a close to a 21 yard free on stroke of full time that both Mark Fanning and Andrew Shore jogged up to before Rhys Clarke waved them both away. He tapped it over obviously knowing there was a couple of mins of injury time but Dublin won the puck out and our chance was gone.

Probably for the best as KK would likely hockey us in the final. I like the look of a half back line with Shore and Chin with Morris and Byrne in the half forward line. Gary Moore was also impressive. Kevin Foley was very quiet but he got a fair few hooks and blocks in and games like this will bring him on a tonne. Hopefully he gets more gametime in the league along with Conor Mac. With Guiney and Sinnott to come back in there is some encouraging signs there. We also appeared to have a clear game plan in the first half which hadn’t been evident in the last few years. Lets hope it continues.

Was this match in Gorey? The lad on RTE commented along the lines of:
“There are no facilities here, it’s just a big field” or something along those lines…then he got cut off…

Staggering. Are there dressing-rooms at least…

No, the players togged out in a ditch on the side of the road

Which was?

Short passing rather than lumping high balls to small forwards. Plenty of working the ball out of defence by short passing to men in space rather than lumping hopeless balls forward. Plenty of diagonal balls into space for forwards running onto too, most of whom were beating their Dublin counterpart.

Were you at the game?

Weren’t Wexford trying to do that last year under Dunne.

At times but usually abandoned it in favour of the ‘traditional’ approach.
