Wexford GAA 2016

Missed frees, lack of composure/accuracy, probable Waterford complacency but mainly Johnny Ryan conspired to fuck us over there. I’m off to the seething thread.

Standing ovation :joy:

+1.

Terrible performance.

I met Eamonn Morris after the game. I assume he was the referee’s assessor today. I made sure to (not) tell him what I thought of Ryan’s efforts.

What’s that, bro???

The ref was against us!!! waah waah :ronnyroar: Sorry pal just got Deja vu reading your post there,I just want you to know I don’t see you as a hypocrite.

Positives today:

  • Very spirited display;
  • Defended well. James Breen was exceptional, brilliant early goal saving tackle. Liam Ryan battled manfully against Shanahan who’s top class. Much better from O’Hanlon who was suited to tracking Michael Walsh (O’Hanlon was centre back and wing back for most of the game as a result). Paudie Foley hurled well as the spare man. Diarmuid O’Keeffe was very good too.
  • Worked some really good points in the first half in particular with crisp stick and hand passing through hands to the best placed team-mate rather than launching it to their well manned defence. Chin got a cracker and Harry Kehoe’s point for 1-13 to 0-16 was tremendous after O’Leary caught a free in the square and we worked the ball up the stand side at pace.
  • 3 good points from Harry Kehoe after he was introduced late in the first half. Aidan Nolan got a couple of decent points too. Chin’s best performance of the league campaign also.
  • Injured players coming back. Morris was okay and Breen, as mentioned, was great. Shore was introduced in the second half too and David Dunne came on very late on too.

Negatives:

  • Probably should have won. Still don’t have a settled and reliable free taker. Byrne missed three scoreable ones and then McDonald missed a relatively straightforward one before Harry Kehoe drove one wide from inside our own half. The first 4 were of the variety you need to be converting.
  • We lost our way a bit for 15 minutes in the first half and into the second half. Stopped working the ball like before and launched a lot of ball on top of the excellent De Burca.
  • Had some wayward attempts from open play too. Eoin Moore was wide 3 times from half way on occasions we patiently worked it across to him in space. I felt Jack O’Connor (unless he was injured) could have been moved to wing back instead of being hauled off when Harry Kehoe came on.
  • McDonald struggled to get into the game but it’s always worth leaving him on as he’s a goal threat. I think he was too stationary today and we/he needs to work on that before the championship.
  • We need to start beating top teams (and Offaly) in Wexford Park again. It’s sickening to read these Munster cunts spouting shite and platitudes in The Cork Examiner about how they’re not taking Wexford in Wexford Park for granted. And then they blatantly take us for granted but still end up winning. Fuck that.
  • Johnny Ryan. What an inept and embarrassing display of officiating. The same clownshoes travelling up and down the country every week fucking up the games for players, management and supporters. I’ve never seen @Appendage swing his umbrella so aggressively.

It’s natural you wouldn’t, mate. You’re not in a position to argue the point as it’d be pretty dumb to conclude definitively on the specifics of a game you weren’t at and which wasn’t televised. Thanks for confirming it anyway though. :+1:

Hard luck @Bandage and all the Wexford casuals. Wexford Park is never an easy place to come to and we certainly weren’t taking ye for granted.

Did you have any problems negotiating the roundabouts in greater Wexford town area? Some forum members have struggled with them on previous trips to GAA games.

Outnumbered by about 3 to 1 by Waterford folk in our own backyard. How has it come to this?

No the traffic was a doddle @mac.

I’d say it was the wet day.

Who writes this stuff?

Mixed fortunes in Innovate Wexford Park today but the Yellowbellies did their county proud all around.

The football team ran out winners against Carlow in the final round of the Allianz league Div 4 game on a score of 2-17 to 2-06

The hurlers however lost out to neighbours Waterford in the Allianz League quarter final but not as had been predicted by the “Experts” in the build up to the game.
Wexford got off to a great start and had been 8-2 up at one stage.

Waterford, the reigning league champions , fought back and were only a point down at half time.

The second half was a battle royal. Waterford seemed to have got the game in the bag when 4 points ahead but Conor MacDonald goaled to leave it a one point game and Harry Kehoe put Wexford level from the next play.
However Wexford conceded some frees well out the field in injury time but Maurice Shanahan pointed to put Waterford through to the league semi final.

Final score Wexford 1-13 Waterford 0-17.
It was much improved performance by Wexford and gives a base for working on for the championship.

In the semi finals Kilkenny will play Clare and Waterford will play Limerick. so two of the Div 1B teams get through while Wexford got very close indeed.

we scored our usual total, when was the last time we tallied more then 16 points? colour me surprised if it was lately.

how many times do we have to restore pride in the jersey. fuck off with that kind of shite, really gets on my wick.

I think this was the death rattle of the Dunne regime, time will tell.

All about the performance today. If we could get some level of consistency in our play it would help with confidence. Plenty of hurlers in Wexford. Dunne on the radio saying Laois game was turning point. That result keeps him a job.

As an aside the booing of the free takers by the Waterford supporters was poor form!

Ah lovely

This is my favourite bit

I hope to be still around on the 22 May. There’s a county board meeting and maybe if they talked about people in the clubs producing more hurlers to come in the county team it’d be a lot better than trying to stick knives into my back.
