Wexford GAA 2016

A Furlong exclusive? Assume it’s in the paper this week?

just checked.

Of course it is, first page of the sports section.

That page of the Hogan Stand was some cunt fest. @Brendan Furlong spreading his muck and the Meath pricks in disbelief that they’re being ordered to replay a drawn game. What a shower of wankers.

Wexford’s injury crisis has robbed the side of outstanding young defender Liam Ryan for their opening Senior hurling qualifier game on July 2.

The right full-back sustained a broken thumb when assisting his club, Rapparees, in their All-County Hurling League defeat to Oulart-The Ballagh on Friday.

The injury has brought the curtain down on Ryan’s summer, and he is joined on the sideline by Askamore’s Shane Tomkins who faces an agonising twelve-month recovery from a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Manager Liam Dunne has ruled Ryan out of playing any part in the qualifiers which limits his defensive options even further.

‘Liam (Ryan) underwent surgery in Waterford University Hospital on Saturday. He had the thumb wired up which rules him out of hurling for six to eight weeks which makes him unavailable for the qualifiers,’ Dunne said.

Wexford’s unfortunate run of injuries does not end there with Shane Tomkins now out of the frame. He had passed a fitness test in the run up to the Dublin game which led to his inclusion in the substitutes.

‘Shane has done his cruciate knee ligament which rules him out of hurling for up to twelve months. He will have the knee operation on June 24,’ Dunne explained.

With Andrew Shore, recovering from cruciate knee operation, and the Oulart-The Ballagh pairing of David Redmond and Shaun Murphy all long-term injury victims, Dunne is now hoping that the remainder of his players on the doubtful list will be available for the qualifier game. Incidentally, Redmond has had surgery carried out on his hip.

‘Lee (Chin) is about 80% at the moment while both Aidan Nolan (knee ligament) and James Breen (hamstring) have resumed light training. Hopefully they will be available,’ Dunne said.

But of more concern to the manager is the fitness doubt surrounding young full-forward Conor McDonald.

‘Conor is having an MRI scan on his knee at Santry Sports Clinic this morning (Monday). We are keeping our fingers crossed that the injury is not too serious,’ he added.

Apparently McDonald suffered the injury during the course of Wexford’s Under-21 defeat to Dublin.

On the football front, Wexford will host Fermanagh in their opening round qualifier game at Innovate Wexford Park on Saturday evening week.

Fermanagh went down by a seven-point margin to Donegal in the Ulster championship in Ballybofey on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Wexford Junior footballers travel to Drogheda on Tuesday to take on Louth in the provincial final.

It’s good they didn’t rush to get McDonald checked out after the Dublin game where he could barely move. You can never rush things like that.

is Nevin/Naomhan back for the footballers?

The park will be rocking on Saturday night…

He played with the club last week, so he seems to be fit again

Another underwhelming football campaign comes to an end. Not sure if Big Dave is signed up for next year but wouldn’t be surprised to see him given the road. Apart from the Down game last year its been an average enough couple of seasons with relegation and lack of promotion.

Not as if he has a vast player pool but taking the Kildare game in Croker as a measure of things you’d have to be disappointed. County board not likely to plough into football so good chance that this will be our level for the foreseeable future.

There’s a complete apathy to county Gaa in general these days. I’d be surprised if the offaly game gets many at it.

As for Power, as bad and all as the seniors campaigns have been, my biggest criticism would be the loss at home to Westmeath in the 21s this year with as good a pool of players as we have had for 4 or 5 years.

In general, football is at all really low ebb. The minor football had a very disappointing exit too with a very talented team.

At least we can focus totally on the hurling now and see how many club games we can cancel to make sure we get the best returns.

We will see you for the league promotion battle next year. Two of us plus westmeath

I can’t wait! And the hurling to look forward to too!

Power will be given the road alright.

Players didnt rate him, no management about him seems to want tipp job.

Farcical scenes in the Second half. Materson was injured and refused to come off when the board with his number was put up.Likewise Adrian Morrissey gave out like shit when he was substituted. We really are sinking to the bottom as a GAA county at the moment.

Yea he was on twitter bitching about Power after the game, looks like he’s deleted his account now…

They looked like the had no shape or defined tactics on Saturday, hopeless. That basketball coach from Cork was meant to have cost a fair bit, not sure if it was money well spent…

Fermanagh looked fitter, faster and hungrier. Their tactics were simple but effective, sweeper covering back, then quick counter attacks with loads of runners. When you think of the tiny pick Fermanagh have to work with, Pete McGrath has done wonders with them

They are type of team Wexford should be trying to emulate.

Happy to report I was on the “Power Out” bandwagon months ago.

20 Euro into a football qualifier match is a joke. They’re pricing lads out of going to these games!
