unfortunately it’s still division 2 hurling
Do you reckon Chins injury will scupper the Harriers plans for world domination this year? I see the Shels are without Brian Malone after he left for America.
Word on the street is he’s off to America. If he goes they’re up shit creek without a paddle. Bet by Rapparees by 10 points on Friday night, they were putrid. Sar’s are also in a bad way. Mary’s bet them 1:11-0:5 in the town final a week or so ago. No Sean Ó Corcora, Mikey Hanrahan or David Mooney, Mary’s led them on a merry dance. One point in second half, went 37 minutes without a score.
If Dunne is kept they should try and get in Justin McCarthy as assistant coach. Good hurling coach and surely have an eye for tactics.
Spot on ref Power.
His success with Tipp minors was heavily down to Evans helping behind the scenes. Players liked Power as he was a young fresh voice in comparison to anything they had heard before. The panel was hugely talented also.
I really thought no IC side other than Tipp would touch him until he had at least tested himself with a good Senior club side where his methods with grown men would be tested.
Brendan very pro Dunne in the Standard.
Dunne is quote friendly for Brendan and ensures a steady flow of extra income from the national newspapers for him.
It could definitely be the year when the Sars’ proud record of loads and loads and loads of consecutive years of senior football (30+ years, more even?) is ended.
The Harriers lost their first two games if I recall correctly and play Oulart at the weekend. They could be in a dodgy enough predicament if Chin has sustained any ankle ligament damage of note. That said, I’ve fond memories of attending the 2014 senior relegation final against Adamstown.
I’m in another club in town but wouldn’t want to see them go down. I was talking to one of the boys on the team and he said they haven’t been training properly for about four years. Spot, Lee Walker, Jason Murphy are all head the balls but by fuck they do turn up on match day like they did against Fintan’s for ya’s last year to save ya’s from relegation. On the other side it would be spicey next year in Intermediate between Sar’s, Mary’s and Joseph’s.
Who are at the bottom in the other group table ? Decent enough championship this year, Gorey are really holding their own since coming up.
Reading between the lines Dunne wants to stay.At this stage the Co.Board need to thank him for his efforts and politely send him on his way.He has been there for 5 years at this stage.Only the likes of Cody,Harte etc get this length of a term or longer.Surely there are alternatives?
I’d say he knows the writing is on the wall but won’t go quietly.
Dunne is up there with Fitzy and Darragh Ryan as my favourite hurlers ever but I’ve lost a serious amount of respect for him with the wany he’s handled himself as a manager.
There was the bullshit with calling half of the football squad in for hurling trial to try and make a point, all the crap at the start of this year and the constant quotes he keeps feeding Furlong with.
It would have been nice to see him realise that his time is done and walk away with a bit of dignity, wishing the players well for the future and that he was glad for putting together the foundations of a team after a very tricky transition period. Instead he puts it on the players to decide his fate, knowing that the majority want him gone, leaving them on a hiding to nothing unless the Co Board steps up to make the decision for them.
My dream pairing would be Nicky English with JJ, but I realise that it is unlikely to happen.
The whole thing needs to be freshened up so The Co Board should put a proper shortlist together, talk to about 10 different candidates and select one with a decent track record and a good plan for the next 2 to 3 years. I am sure there are successful club managers in Kilkenny and Waterford, along with some inter county managers who’d like to step up to our side.
The Co. broad needs to be sorted first but unfortunately that’s the same with every county.
Im not sure about JJ, like any man i heard some good some bad. I think you need a someone who has a good repoire with players, as yet JJ has managed ladies and U21s. I could have managed the ladies team as they had all the talent in the world and the u21s should have at least had a decent crack at the title rather than getting bet off the field.
That and the loos to Antrim would big red flags in relation to JJ. Nicky English i would not know very much about in relation to his coaching career, he was over Tipp for a while?
a good club manager with good methods and from outside the county. Outside the county due to the hurling snobbery that still exists in Wexford, a player is far more likely to be considered based on the school he went or club he played for rather than his hurling ability, this is slowly beginning to change but far too slowly.
Frank Flannery, i think, would be a great candidate, he got Oulart over the line finally in Leinster, he knows the clubs he knows a lot of club players. He was involved in Cork this year but how much input he had in unknown.
First and foremost a manager is needed that the players can get behind.
Additionally, i have lost respect for Dunne with his " let the players ratify me" stance, it doesn’t work like that Liam, you will still have to ratified at a county board meeting. This kind of stance will only lead to division within the panel as those who were favoured by Dunne will, possibly, want him to stay and those who were not will want him gone.
Managed them to win the All-Ireland in 2001.
This seems a risky way to go about things by Dunne. Is there a good chance the panel will come together and publicly tell him they have no confidence in him? They could probably count on most Wexford hurling people to support them, regardless of how many articles Brendan Furlong writes. In which case, Dunne’s shot to hell for eternity and would have no hope of ever coming back or coaching anything significant in the future.
I’d imagine Flannery probably learned a lot at Cork this year, like how not to do things, a virtue that would be very beneficial to any incoming Wexford manager.
Power has stepped down of his own accord.
Kevin Kehoe’s phone must be hopping…
#make wexford great again
Power out in Wexford
Are Rathnure gone to absolute pot? I know Jack Guniey has opted out but they never seem to have any inter-county hurlers any more.
