Wexford GAA 2017 - Gorey Gorey, the Messiah is still here!

I’d say it’s much the same as normal. It should be a decent minor team this year, but the usual dual thing will play out again. Counsel have had better teams in previous years but still had enough to be organised and good enough to have a good tilt at leinster. Wouldn’t know enough about Peters to comment, but the Wicklow schools would never feature much at latter stages so I don’t know if they got a bit of luck of the draw. They have a good set up over their sides though.

Two Wex schools in Leinster football Colleges semis. Is there a lot of work being done there .

I am still annoyed about that episode in 1999. Larceny.

Poor Liam Murphy was never the same again

I think that Counsel team won the u-16 All Ireland? there best player was a Kilkenny fella who then went to England for soccer? I could be dotting… the Peter’s team were fancied from the start, strong team, but from a county perspective a good few of their players would be overage for minor

The really big match is tomorrow when the Enniscorthy CBS :ronnyroar: take on FCJ in the Leinster B football semi-final

Thomas O’Connor from Rosbercon, innit? Scored a cracker for Southampton at Old Trafford in the English FA Youth Cup before Christmas.

yeah the team from last year had won the U16 in 2014 and this years team retained it then the following year. Last years senior was the one that got away really. And as you say, Thomas O Connor was their best player from that '15 winning AI team, so he was a huge loss. from recollection, he got more than half the scores in the final that time, 2-5 or 6 or something. they accounted for Moate 2 years ago without O Connor and Porter who were playing for Ireland, but I just dont think they had the same depth of talent as last years team or progressed as much from that team 2 years ago.

Sure didn’t Kevin Kehoe try and get the age limited raised for the Leinster championship to allow some repeats play on this Counsel team (including your own club man) Only lost the proposal by one vote… #couldofbeencounsel

did he? ha! good man Kev. Yeah that chap would have made a massive difference. Although in fairness, it’s not the worst of proposals. I mean if a chap does transition year or repeats and is in the school, then surely the year extra (or 6 months really) would let him play? so it would be U19 instead of U18 and a 1/2. But I suppose you have to factor in schools who would get lads to repeat or do transition year so their team would be much stronger in that jump from Junior to Senior grade.

He used to encourage lads to repeat if they were underage. It used to drive Younger beserk.

For all of his insanity he will never outdo bringing on his nephew as a 16th man in an All-Ireland final Senior Colleges A Final where we were already getting beaten by about 15 points if memory serves correctly.

It does make sense alright and would tie in with the age limit for the Ulster championship as well

Sure Good Counsel were always famous for encouraging good players to repeat  my own club man did it in 1999

What’s the age limit for the all Ireland series then? Do the nordies lose players?

Every school serious about sport does it i think.

The Peters team looks like last year’s Martins minors.

dont remember that to be honest. And I didnt think they lost the final by that much. I know they got hammered in the hurling 2 years after, but Maghera didnt win by 15, unless my memory is failing me. It wouldnt surprise me, as it happened in the senior county final in 98 when his club sent on an extra man for a couple of minutes before it was copped.

he did indeed. Was a major part in that 99 team with him and Bradley midfield. there was 3 repeats on that team, and another 2 in the squad

Yep, the nordies always lost players when they joined the all–ireland series. I’m guessing it’s 18 1/2 like @Gman said and 19 up north

nordies always had it as U19, whereas it was U18 with July 1st as the date in the other 3 provinces. so they would play their ulster tournament and potentially lose players off their team. that Maghera team that beat GCC in 95 had Sean Marty Lockhart as their captain, but then he couldnt play the semi final or final after they won Ulster.

I was talking about the hurling final in 97.
