ah right. forgot about the ins and outs of it but was he involved with that team? I thought it was mainly Miley and Tom over them?
No he was training them.
He brought on Padhraig, who wouldn’t have been in the top 30 hurlers that year IMHO, with about 10 minutes left.
It made the papers the following day as well and I remember everyone started talking and remembering other times he had tried the same. He used to bring off a corner back and bring on a corner forward who would start to run off the field slowly. When play resumed and the ref turned his back he’d wave at them to stay on.
We used to watch out for him trying it at club level in tight games after that.
Some joker.
That’s why I was asking about Peter’s last night. I know the Martin’s are pretty good at football these days but what other clubs in the Wexford district catchment area have improved their football set ups markedly? Crossabeg maybe? It could of course also be down to luck of the draw along the way as @Gman alluded to.
Glynn barntown will have a good minor team this year. But outside of them and Martins, not many other Wexford district sides will be up to much. Shels have a bit of a lull in their underage, probably better at hurling than football with this age group. Sars will be premier in the minor football but wont really be challenging. Huge gulf from Martins, Glynn and Gorey to the rest in the football and hurling this year at minor.
Didn’t include Glynn-Barntown in my earlier post as they’ve been fairly strong in underage football for the last good while. The Sars often have a small enough pool attending Peter’s - more go to Wexford CBS primary being from the town itself and stay there for secondary school.
Wexford buachaillí- Are ya a bet tonight at 4/7??? Not an awfully strong Dublin team. Any word on yere team??
They’re flying.
Just talking to the Da, he was in at the game. Was one of the largest crowds he ever saw in Pat’s Park, Peter’s brought six bus loads of kids to it. He said the biggest cheer of the match was when the Good Counsel result was announced by some young fella on a loud speaker Rory O’Connor is an exceptional footballer by all accounts.
I haven’t seen a team announcement yet but we had an unchanged and relatively strong team out for the first two games. Despite the fact we’ve players tied up with colleges who shouldn’t be competing in this competition and some long term injuries too, I was a little bit surprised there wasn’t more experimentation. Maybe he thinks those two factors are hindering our preparation for the league to a certain extent and wants the team to be as settled as possible for the first game. That said, it’s only a 4-day turnaround since the last game so I’d expect some changes tonight.
Good luck to those on the way to Hollymount. If you are not on your way now, forget about it I’d say! Or else bring a flask and food for the journey home. Very odd location for a game that will have a large turnout. Between the narrow road to the venue, the lane down to the only main part of carparking an the very minimal amount of car parking in the venue, it’s going to be some nightmare getting in and out of there tonight. I’m sure the Co Board and the guards have a logical traffic management and parking plan in place!
Always hated playing there. Madness dragging everyone down that far when they could have played in Pat’s Park. I presume that Gorey has adequate lighting as well?
Pats Park does, and would have made most sense. Craanford was mooted but apparently the pitch isnt up to scratch. Dont think Gorey has lights? @mac?
I think the back pitch in Gorey has lights but not the main pitch. If they do, they wouldn’t be up to IC standard.
Has this been posted?
That was shit.
I’m en route but I’m sure there’ll be a load of busy cunts in high viz jackets from the local club to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and ample parking.
And so it proved. A precise stewarding operation here in Hollymount.
