Just on last nights game, and the team, there is a continuing trend of players who wont play minor football who end up being on senior or U21 football teams. Even last night, Conor Firman was a minor last year but didnt play football. Firman and Pepper the same. Its an ongoing trend. I’d just love to see how a minor football team would do if they played the best minor footballers in the county.
Good win in awful conditions today. I’d say the guy in Seattle who has the @innovate twitter handle is wondering why there is a load of wexford gaa tweets tagging him.
So, chaps…everything’s going very well. Both county teams undefeated in the league. Promotion secured before the final round of games in both codes. What could possibly go wrong? See my post above - I expect / fear some fireworks between league and championship along the lines mentioned above.
The county board will want to run off 4 or 5 rounds of club championship games across both codes between the end of the league and start of the championship but I understand Davy wants to bring the hurlers away for a week’s training in the sun somewhere. I’m also told that whatever Davy gets, Banty demands and vice versa so it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.
I also found out that Banty got the Tyrone stats team to come down to Wexford Park to film one of our league games (Tyrone had played on the Saturday night) and to compile a detailed statistical report and video analysis package. Apparently there were ructions when he presented the €3k bill to the County Board.
That sounds a bit odd. The video analysis company who provide the software and assistance for Tyrone is the same one who does wexford hurlers. The footballers had been using another reputable but rival video analysis company (sure why would we use the same resources for both?) but not sure of the set up since banty has been in.
If the hurlers win the league quarter final, the first and second round of the football is down for the weekends of 23rd and 30th April. If they lose, it starts a week earlier.
Banty has selected a largely second string team for Sunday with promotion already assured. He was on the lash with the players in Wexford last Sunday night to celebrate achieving their early season target.
As in let odds drift and then end up starting our best players? No, I’m advised by a knowledgeable GAA man that he’ll be giving squad players a go against Westmeath on Sunday (first teamers will be back to play them again in League Final on April 8) and against Carlow in the last group game next week (old GGA cliche of not showing them our hand before playing them in the championship).
