Well Wexford were favourites to win earlier in the week… i may have put a small wager on westmeath, all the squad players were told they were getting game time last weekend
Losing 1-18 to 0-4 at half time in the football but have the wind for the second half!!
I misread your post. Thought it was 1-8 to 0-4. Christ! They got a second goal in the first minute of the second half too so I take it the second string lads haven’t really taken the opportunity to impress.
Sigh.
Cringe.
etc etc.
Fuck sake Banty, there’s conceding the game and then there’s going out an getting walloped. I love the way we refused to play a sweeper against the wind in case Westmeath copped onto the tactic we’ve used in every other game…
Getting by a hiding like that can’t achieve anything.
Last game against Carlow should be interesting.
Would think Carlow would fancy their chances in whatever Dr Cullen Park is officially called these days.
One of my concerns with the hurlers is that we’ll need to rely on accurate mid to long range shooting to win games by virtue of our set up. Do we have enough players who are reliable shooters from distance? We also lack a reliable free taker and this was apparent again today.
Surely the Davey-Banty honeymoon can’t be over already
That"s a disturbing image
Think of the fox as brian cody
Great draw for Wexford. KK without TJ are nothing. Stop him, stop the Cats.
Weather supposed to be good for next weekend, Wx by 4
Ah Locke, stop will you. Wait until the championship at least for the annual Kilkenny beal bocht shite.
Good morning, @ciarancareyshurlingarmy.
Yes, the honeymoon period is well and truly over.
Banty and the players had their promotion celebratory night out last Sunday week after beating London and he told them that the last two group games would provide a chance for the squad players to stake a claim and that the first team chaps would get in some training ground work. But yesterday’s annihilation, albeit dished out to the second string, could force a revision of plans. It could be a real momentum stopper and confidence killer. It’ll be interesting to see if he gives them a chance to redeem themselves next week or whether he selects some of the more senior players. There’s the old GAA cliche of “not wanting to show our hand” to Carlow ahead of the Leinster Championship game but yesterday causes real uncertainty and a little bit of distress.
Meanwhile, our hurling season has been gradually winding down since we achieved our season aims in Salthill back in February. Another match yesterday with wides being blazed from all angles from play and frees and another high tally conceded.
It’s very worrying times for Wexford supporters.
You will always have the comeback wins in the Limerick & Galway games to look back on for 2017
It will be interesting to see Davys mindset ahead of the quarter final in Nowlan Park.
If you cast your mind back to last year. Clare won a league title at the expense of Waterford in a replay after a brilliant cameo from Tony Kelly. Waterford absolutely blitzed them in the championship a couple of weeks later.
I predict a lot of shadow boxing with Kilkenny winning by 7 or 8 points and the kitchen sink to be thrown at Kilkenny in Wexford park further down the line.
Today’s Wexford People has the story that IF we beat Carlow in the football championship in May then we’ll have to give up most of the Wexford Park covered stand to accommodate Dublin season ticket holders.
The covered stand holds c.4,200 and Dublin have 3,000+ season ticket holders whose arrangement / deal provides them with a guaranteed covered stand ticket for ALL championship matches.
