Couldn’t agree with you more
Banty’s coming relatively cheap, not much different to old regime… officially Davy is getting the same from the County board, but this doesn’t include a big boost via Jim Bolger & Co
on a related question what’s the going rate for an inter-county manager?
To try and improve the squad one would imagine.
The sort of money backing these lads is not the type that would be invested otherwise I’d say.
Even though all euro are broadly the same.
60-80k
I presume that’s only at the top end though, and at that level there are easier ways to make it.
Very limited range of jobs to choose from. Cork, Tipperary and Kilkenny will never have an outside manager. Waterford can’t afford to go outside the county after Davy beggared us. Clare will probably stick with their own in future as well. Galway are going the same way. Limerick look like they’ve had enough of outsiders, so that only leaves Wexford, Offaly, Laois, Carlow, Westmeath and Kerry of the Liam McCarthy counties. Wexford are definitely the pick of that bunch, both in terms of available funds and prospects for success.
Sure Cheddar was working for free wasn’t he?
Indeed. These benefactor types largely want to be associated with senior success and quickly (however unlikely that is) so it’s not like the county board is diverting money from, say, underage development squads to fund a senior manager and his coaches. That money remains available to use on grassroots coaching and what not - it’s just the benefactors are providing funds specifically to add to the senior inter-county pool.
I saw an amusing comment recently that Clare hurler spent less than the footballers in 2015.
Our chairman was broadcasting this oblivious to the fact that most of the hurler money does not got through the co board books*.
*according to my sources and allegedly
It’ll be gas next May / June when the county board tell Davy and Banty that there’ll be 2 or 3 rounds of both the county hurling and football championships played before and after the first round senior inter-county championship matches.
Banty’s officially on half that…
Martin McElkennon is going to be the trainer, anyone know anything about him?
From http://www.breakforball.com/coaches/
Martin McElkennon
Widely recognized as one of the top, most innovative coaches in the modern game, Martin has been involved with numerous county teams in Ulster, including successful stints with Derry (NFL Title 2001), Fermanagh and then as manager of Cavan. In his early days, Marty coached Tyrone Minors to Ulster and All Ireland Titles (1997), before managing Errigal Ciaran to an Ulster Final and their first ever league & championship double in the same year. In 2007 he joined forces with Seamus McEneaney in Monaghan, pulling them out of the doldrums and within a whisker of beating the mighty Kerry in an All-Ireland Quarter Final. After a four year stint with the Farney, Martin departed with Banty to take over Meath in 2011.
