The whole country is behind Wexford now
I think I post for everyone when I say…
…Wexford Wexford Wexford.
There was a wonderful moment in the first half yesterday when TJ Reid was standing over a free and the crowd chant slowly got louder until he struck it and then it sailed wide.
I’ve spent the morning booking hotels in Wexford for the All Ireland weekend.
I’m gonna head down on the Thursday or Friday to soak up the atmosphere. Will travel up to Dublin (very early) Sunday morning with bt Senior and then back down after the game for the celebrations. Will be in Wexford town for the homecoming on Monday night but torn between Gorey and Wexford town for the Sunday night. There was incredible scenes in Gorey last night.
First Spratt commentary clips starting to emerge.
Not sure who was doing co-commentary on Radio 1 (from Offaly, Brendan Murphy?) but he mentioned the jeering TJ got when he was taking frees. He wondered why they couldn’t stay quiet like the rugby crowd. My initial thought as it always is when i hear this bullshit was “cos this fucking means more”.
Brian Carroll.
He was very good apart from that. Lodge is decent but really lacks that rise in pitch/enthusiasm when there’s a goal chance coming or even scored.
Brendan Murphy was on team doctor duties in LITGG yesterday.
He was decent but nowhere near his own high standards. Cody changed tack to have TJ working off the breaks rather than direct ball and it paid dividends from the start.
The lack of cop on between him and Fennelly on the short free attempt was shocking for two experienced players.
He was lucky not to pick up a definite yellow as well.
Would he not be offending Waterford listeners with this jingoistic barb?
I thought I heard his name mentioned yesterday. He was a fantastic hurler from what I remember, wing forward.
I see there’s a homecoming in Innovate Wexford Park at 6.30 this evening. Any of the Wexford crew here going?
I’m listening on South East Radio here, but it seems to be the usual schedule after the 6pm news - farming report, death notices and now into Tony Kehoe’s Country & Irish Show. Maybe they’ll be dipping in and out of Innovate Wexford Park.
Tony says we’ll be joining Liam Spratt in Innovate Wexford Park shortly.
“You won’t miss a thing. But first here’s a Roscommon song.”
I was in Wexford on business today and there was a great buzz around the town. The feel good factor was palpable all around the place. If I had advance warning, I would have stayed on to take in the homecoming. Just heard it mentioned on South East radio about an hour ago on the way back to Dublin.
Sorry pal. Should have mentioned it earlier. The event was announced last night on the Wexford GAA social media accounts.
A Limerick song now. From Richie Halpin.
“Tonight I want to go dancing. Will you waltz around Limerick with me?”
All the towns, villages and townlands are getting a mention here.
“Doon, Cappamore and old Pallas…”
Tony Kehoe is box office.
