Not really. Oulart were very marginal favourites by the bookie’s but Oylegate were a lot of people’s outside choice last year. Good team there, I’d have fancied them to beat oulart
Fethard leading Faythe Harriers 9-3 at half time after playing with a strong wind.
Injury time point for Fethard gets them a draw. Lee Chin scoring a load of frees and hitting as many wide too.
It wasn’t even the best goal in Bellefield in the last 2 weeks
What was?
The county board seem to have instructed the county minor management teams not to cooperate with The Wexford People. #IStandWithBrendan
ha! whats this now? Is there an online version out with his column? He had a lovely one last week with a few more digs rehashed from weeks previous.
I’d say he was going for a point and miss-hit it?
thats brilliant. I love the random throw in of a few names of the team for no reason whatsoever. Here are a few players that might be involved.
The other view is that the management may not want to involve themselves in Brendans petty disputes which he broadcasts in his weekly comments using the people he has chats with as fodder for his attacks. I know of people who have ignored calls from him as they do not want to get caught up and better off not talking at all rather than have their words spun into the usual anti county board agenda. I doubt the “county board” instructs management not to talk with poor aul Brendan.
I’m also not sure why he cant preview the game without the need to talk to the management? A few aul makey uppy quotes and cliches are usually good enough most times.
Obviously I’m completely impartial in the County Board / Wexford People dispute, but the former sponsor the underage championships in Wexford yet the County Board are plotting against them. Of course a preview can be written without management input, but that’s an aside. They also revoked all car park passes for Wexford People journalists, which is very petty indeed. If this new County Secretary has anything about him then he’ll put a halt to this silly vendetta against campaigning journalism. If they want gushing praise for everything they do then they’ve plenty of lackey types willing to publish pieces on the Wexford GAA website.

Yeah to be honest the whole thing is petty. As you say, with sponsors involved (and did you read the dig at the lack of sponsor in the article last week) it makes it even more petty from all sides. But ultimately this all did start with Brendan and he keeps on pushing and pushing and I’m not sure what he hopes to gain from all this. Its odd though how he seems to be the only one from the paper involved who is getting worked up by it all and commenting on it weekly. The other reporters seem to be more level headed and professional.
Seems to be very low key build up for Sunday. No player interviews or anything so far. Any ideas on what likely starting team will be?
Huge activity on here, all set for domination of Leinster and meeting those Munster gimps later on this year.
Minor footballers are out I think after losing ot Offaly by a point, reasonably beaten by 14 man Dublin in Eniscorthy and were hammered by Meath last night. They were thereabouts at half time, but they were outscored 3 points to 5-7 in the second half. They got a terrible draw for the group stages and I know the dual issue hampered them where a lot of quality footballers were on the hurling squad, but thats the way it usually is too.
Minor hurlers had a good draw in the circumstances on Saturday. Didnt make it in, but they were 9 points down with ten minutes or so to go but fought back to claim a draw. Great effort considering they didnt show up at all early on. Likely to play Dublin again I think with the way the draw is, so at least they know the teams ahead of them now.
Senior footballers did as well as expected Sunday. Just ran out of steam and outscored by 8 points to round out the game, which is quite similar to the first round last year. I’m still far from convinced about their fitness preparation. I found the 2 opinion pieces in this weeks local middle pages interesting @bandage. One commenter slating the county board for fixing club games and how it clearly impacts the hurler and footballers and why the co board follow the coat tails of Croke Park. The other commenter then showing his frustration with repeated excuses from McLoughlin who promised not to make excuses this year back in January. He also felt that the Co board should be praised for having the club games and that it is up to the county teams to manage around this and they have the players exclusively from November to April so there is no reason to trot out the lack of preparation excuse. Just found it interesting the conflicting views from the 2 journalists.
Hurling camp are keeping a low enough profile in fairness to them. No harm either. Let the play on the field do the talking. I am not getting the hype over Dublin and how highly they are regarded due to their league form as opposed to ourselves and our league form. I’d certainly not fear them nor Kilkenny at home. Galway are still a bridge too far in my opinion if they get themselves right. I’d be hugely disappointed not to at least finish third in the group, but would think there is no reason not to finish second. There is a bit of depth after the league to the squad now, so hopefully it is utilised.
Who were the journalists Geeman?
Brendan and Alan.
Who said what?
Alan said the manager should stop making excuses. Brendan said the county board are to blame.
How are ye fixed for the weekend lads? Any injuries?
