Probably should have beaten both Sligo and Tipp. If they had done theyā€™d be right in the promotion mix.

Pairc SeƔn this day fortnight would be an inopportune day to rediscover your form.

That Sligo game was a pain as well.

Playing their bogey team Deise next weekend

Being trying to rediscover that form since 2013. Barring a run of victories in division 4 under Banty in 2017. Could be a tricky one for Leitrim though.

Theyā€™re ALL tricky ones for Leitrim. Todayā€™s scoreline indicates ye had the better of it, tough to lose outscoring them 15/8 in terms of scores.

Nothing untoward about the absence of Lee Chin and Liam Ryan against Offaly, according to Darragh Egan in the local press. He said they both trained last Sunday morning. The last group game is a bit of a non-event with ourselves and Cork already through, but I guess these two will be targeting it for game time. Egan has used 39 players in the Walsh Cup and League to date so lots of players gaining experience and being given a chance to stake the proverbial claim.

I saw Liam Sheedy making the point that the League Final is too close to the opening round robin games (2 weeks) and heā€™d prefer 3 weeks. In effect, he was arguing that league semi-finals be discontinued with the top two in each group qualifying for the final. He probably has a point for next year onwards, but weā€™re hardly in a position to turn our noses up at the chance of a national title.

Ergo, weā€™ll surely have a second string side (incorporating players returning from injury) out against Cork on 20 March ahead of the semi-final on 27 March. We may or may not have the final then on 3 April before we start with Galway and Dublin both at home on 16 April and 23 April respectively. A tricky enough schedule to negotiate if we do qualify for the league final.

Youā€™d imagine, Cork, Dublin and Waterford will be thinking similarly. Cody wonā€™t be too fussed if itā€™s them that goes through.
Waterford shouldnā€™t be fussed, but Cahill has won nothing yet for all the excitement, heā€™d like to get something under the belt Iā€™d imagine.

@Bandage, are Wexford coming from a similar space that Limerick were in 2018? Is it true that there are a lot of parallels?

I donā€™t even know whoā€™s likely to qualify from the other side. I canā€™t see Cody making a calculated decision to not really bother with the league though. Each game could take on a life of its own. We qualified for the semi-finals in 2017 (when Davy was enticed onto the pitch v Tipp and we shipped a load of goals) and 2018 (heavy beating at home to Kilkenny) so it would be good to NOT get a hiding at least.

I just saw that the footballers lost at home to Tipperary last week on a scoreline of 0-15 to 4-4. :joy::joy::joy:

Age profile would be fairly different. Wexford still backboned by the 2013ā€“2015 Leinster U21 winning teams who would all be 27-29 now. A sprinkling of younger talent now too but not comparable really to the wave of Limerick underage talent that was coming through in 2018. The managerial change and new style of play is the main factor in any upsurge right now for Wexford. A league and Leinster success would be a fantastic year for Wexford. All-Ireland surely still beyond them.

I donā€™t know tbh. Iā€™d say @Aertel220 has it right. We donā€™t have a squad full of underage or club All Ireland winners, like Limerick had, and weā€™ve got that older spine. Lads like Fanning, Ryan, Oā€™Hanlon, P Foley, Oā€™Keeffe, McGovern, Chin, McDonald and others have been involved for a long time. Weā€™ve a few younger mainstays too like Reck x2 and Rory Oā€™Connor but I think Eganā€™s trying to get 2 or 3 more newer/younger lads into the starting team to add some pace/freshness. He seems like a very savvy operator. Very into preparation, seeking out and adopting best practice, very focused on opposition analysis. He obviously has his links to Tipperary but heā€™s meant to have spies in most camps.

Heā€™s persisted with the likes of Charlie McGuckin and Oisin Foley to give them the max amount of gametime possible despite them struggling in some games. My read was that heā€™s trying to get them as much learning and exposure as possible to help their development.

I heard that recently. Iā€™m told it has caused panic alarm in some quarters.
