Wexford GAA 2022

That Carlow defeat deprived Wexford of promotion didnā€™t it? That championship was the start of that productive decade for Wexford football. Won promotion to division 1B then in 2003 and kicked on by taking the scalps of Kildare and Offaly in 2004.

Thatā€™s the one. Destroyed by Limerick in the league semi final above in Portlaoise on a shitty day for the 2003 semi final but promoted because of group performance. Played Laois in a triple header on another shitty day in Croke Park and got destroyed thar day as well. Put by Derry in the qualifiers. All under Dom Twomey.

Roe came in, said* ā€œgive me ā‚¬10,000 for equipment, I get you to league finalā€

*something like that.

That seems like so long ago. And yet only a couple of years later Brian Malone was making his debut. That was some stint he put in.

Why did Roe leave? I felt he got much more out of the team than Bealin did when he came in. Ryan obviously brought things to a whole new level but the Bealin years always felt like underachievement

Did Roe take up another inter county job
He really moved things on

Not sure why he left, best guess was he fell out with the county board.

Very surprised he never got the Laois job actually. Didnā€™t do a bad job with HWH this year.

Fairly sure he managed Offaly at one stage but no memory of how it went

Big test for a very inexperienced forward line. Good to see Charlie McGuckin getting a shot

Rory Higgins anything to Nigel?

Yes, a cousin as far as I know

Assume Kevin Foley is still playing sweeper?

The report from the last match mentioned he lined out at centre forward and stayed there for most of the game. donā€™t think they played a sweeper

Mcguckin was very good against Tipp last weekend, sweeper gone apparently.

How did Kyle Scallan get on?

He did well, was on for 45 mins before we brought on the bench.
