More of a population thing Iâm guessing is being thrown out there, serious amount of houses around forth mountain for example that people wouldnât realise. Alot of Wexford town folk end up moving out to Castlebridge, Barntown etc.
And in football Gusserane and the Jimmies the only Ross district clubs who are Senior this year, alot of amalgamations in underage down that neck of the woods.
He said very rural in relation to the likes of Cloughbawn, for example Martins are rural but their catchment comes in as far as the cinema and Zurich insurance, Shels in as far as Wexford bridge and barntown in to the racecourse, the 3 city clubs in Kilkenny there area extends out a good bit Oâloughlinâs is as far out as Dunmore where the Kilkenny training centre is.
With four well spread out urban centres in a small enough county itâd be difficult enough to have a club that is completely outside that definition of urban sprawl.
I said very rural. It canât be good for Wexford hurling to have Oulart, Rathnure and Buffers Alley at the level they are at. The later two in particular have contributed little or nothing to the county team for years.
The Rathnure men when they go into the county set up are too hard to handle.
I passed through Kiltealy, Killane, Rathnure and Ballywilliam the other day. Itâs as rural as you get and far removed from Wexford town urban sprawl. All Blackstairs Mountain terrain thatâs provided plenty of Wexford All Ireland winners.
Donât Rathnure have a certain, weâll say âsocialâ problem at the moment?
Ballywilliam is a ten-minute drive from New Ross, Killane around the same from Enniscorthy.
No doubt they have provided the Wexford team with many star players in the past.
Thatâs a bizarre route to take regardless of where your destination was
Are you insinuating TNH?
Not really. South Carlow to Waterford. Right down the eastern flank of the Blackstairs, across from Ballywilliam to Rathgarogue and over to the new bridge.
Kiltealy Iâd agree. Youâre nearly going out of your way to go through the other places
Itâs not that much out of your way. Might be a bit quicker alright after Kiltealy to keep going straight, not turn off for Killanne and hit the Enniscorthy to New Ross road before Clonroche and make your way to the new bridge from there. I wasnât in any hurry and a more interesting route going the other way. I noticed passing through Killanne that Rackards has got a facelift and is looking a lot better than than it was the last time I saw it. Is it reopening in some guise?
Oylegate, Glenbrien, Crossabeg and Ballymurn would be very rural anyway. Farmland everywhere sure.
Theyâre probably benefitting from people moving out of towns to those places though at the same time. Large clusters of big houses all around them. Similar to the likes of Castletown now, very rural but a huge growing population as people move out of Gorey
No one moves to GlenbrienâŚ
Come off the N11 and youâre in the sticks in Oylegate.
Some Dubs moving there too, sure the Brooks and Bealinâs that play for them are from families originally from Dublin.
Yeah thereâs a huge Dub influx into the area alright. Most of these âcommuter villagesâ will probably be the ones to dominate Wexford GAA for the next 30-40 years as thatâs where the populations are growing
