Wouldnt know the specifics of that, but they do blame the eastern european population of the town for playing soccer but not GAA. There is an issue alright of kids in the town who play for Cushinstown rather than Ross, but things like this only prove them right.
Would they not tap into Eastern European population to play GAA? Lots of GAA clubs missing a trick.
There is a lot they could be doing. With a population of nearly 9,000 people and the main primary school, split into junior and senior schools having about 700 pupils between them, the fact that they cant field a team on their own at competitive underage groups and now having no adult football team, there is a lot wrong there that will take a long time to fix.

There’s been talk that the traveller element in the club at underage is a factor in putting off other parents. Not sure how true that is or not.
My own experience from working with lads from Ross is soccer is the main game in the town. Ross celtic have a big tradition passed down through certain families. Basically what the gaa is in rural parishes
Also have ross town, and rosbercon United across the bridge.
There’s 1 chap of Lithuania descent I think who plays gaa for the Geraldines.

Change it to groups of 4 3 big championship games a year.
Ross Celtic were relegated from the Premier last year, had went down to division 2 previously but have had a rebuild in last few years. I think they have 3 adult teams tho
I finished up with the club as P.R.O. after about 16 years there last year. Wexford GAA overall from top to bottom is a jokeshop.
New Ross Town have completely taken over from New Ross Celtic at underage level and are a massive outfit now,based around Irishtown. Gaa in New Ross has been in huge trouble for a good few Years now.
Rathgarogue/Cushinstown eating their lunch taking all the comfortably off people from young ages, R/C getting very strong at underage & could be a coming force in Wexford hurling.

Good Counsel is full of boggers coming in from all the surrounding clubs. Pretty much anyone of any note who went to school there is not from the town itself, but from surrounding parishes.

Correct and a good core of Kilkenny chaps going there too. Sad situation but should the county board be stepping in here to help or give some guidance etc? Or are the county board completely shite?
I’m from South kilkenny and a good few young lads from our parish play with Ross celtic. A few with town too.
Both seem to have big numbers playing and coaching, well organised etc
Very few from new ross though. Rural parishes in the ross district and South kilkenny. Wally Walsh, Tadhg Furlong, darragh Joyce
I remember about 10 or more years ago they put in gpos there when no one had them. They seem to have done far more there than they’ve done for any club. There comes a point when they need to sort out their shit like heaps of clubs in far worse situations do.
I did see in the upcoming soccer leagues this year, ross celtic have no u13 or u14 team and ross town have no u15 team. So not like they are hoovering up all the potential players either.
Who is the county board?
Is it the same county board that was there 20 years ago?
Or 50?

A number of appointments to the backroom teams of our senior hurling and U20 hurling squads for 2026 were ratified. It had previously been decided that managers Keith Rossiter and Rónán Joyce would retain those positions.
Senior Hurling
- Selector: Andy Ronan (Rathnure St. Anne’s).
- Coach: Shane O’Brien (Dublin. Previously managed Westmeath seniors & Dublin U20s).
- Coach: Shane Keegan (Laois. Manager of JK Brackens in Tipperary this year, and has previously also managed League of Ireland soccer clubs, including Wexford FC),
- S&C: Chris Coburn (Dublin. Has previously worked with Kilmacud Crokes, Kilkenny senior hurlers, Wicklow senior footballers, and Munster Rugby).
A lead coach and another Wexford-based selector will be appointed following the conclusion of the club championships.
