Hi PM. Youâre some bitter cunt. The demise of Kilkenny will be all the sweeter with the likes of you analysing it.
While youâre commenting about the greatness of the kk stepford wives please donât forget the influences that Cody had on games by being allowed to hand pick his favourite referees. Also donât forget to mention the little mistakes made when players went missing instead of being available for certain tests. âŚ
After the 2010 final Kilkenny had players who had served long apprenticeships on the bench like TJ Reid, Richie Hogan and Mick Fennelly able to assume centre stage from 2011 onwards. Shefflin, Tommy Walsh, JJ Delaney, Eoin Larkin and a few more of the greats all had a few more good years left in them and they had players of the calibre of Cillian Buckley and Padraig Walsh off the All Ireland minor winning team of 2010 coming through.
Its a completely different dynamic now. The Kilkenny U21âs lost to Westmeath last year. Wexford beat Kilkenny at U21 in 2013, 14 & 15 (heavily in the later two years). Four bad U21 teams in a row suggests thereâs a dearth of quality hurlers there in the 21-25 age bracket.
Pretty much evert successful team is build on a group of relatively successful underage players coming though at the same time and not one or two lads each year.
It was a laughable statement and a real cliche. Kilkenny are goosed for the next few years as their crop of hurlers between 19 and 24 are bang average in the grand scheme of things. They are utterly reliant on 4 or 5 hurlers at this moment in time
They had a few good minor teams in the last 5 years or so. The problem is those lads havenât really kicked on yet like Blanchfield, Richie Leahy, James Maher was injured for a long time
Theyâve some excellent minors this year like Adrian Mullen and, eh, other chaps. DJ Carey and Adrian Ronan both had sons playing in defence for St Kieranâs this year.
I find OâGrady to be dismissive, arrogant and aloof in his TV punditry / co-commentary. @Appendage is friends with him and says heâs a gentleman. My auld lad knows him too and agrees with Appendage.
Cleere looks a nice prospect but is another who hasnât really kicked on and their 21s have been cat in recent times. They really seem to struggle to produce backs with real pace these days.
When you see the likes of Conor OâShea, Lennon, Lester Ryan, JJ Farrell, Prendergast et al all getting significant game over the last 18 months shows you how much they are struggling for depth. Those lads would struggle to get a run for other inter county sides IMHO.
