Manual transfer was awful advice forcing Bandage into manual menial tasks. Delighted he went with my recommended google backup advice.
Bandages initially claimed he was unable to sync his old phone, rendering your advice completely and utterly useless.
Bandage if you ever find a solution to my query over the coming weeks I would appreciate a post in this thread please.
Sometimes you need to coax the ability out of someone. From your helpdesk experience you’re obviously used to “helping” people in a dictatorial way but with a little bit more time and patience it can be a positive learning environment for everyone.
Bandage, you could try this convoluted way.
Nothing dictatorial about that. Merely offering him an alternative if he was stuck.
Rocko, I really hope you are not to persona who offers “helpful suggestions” to the IT people at work when they are working on a problem? Or worse, the person who thinks they know enough to have a go at “fixing” things themselves only to make a whole lot worse and neglect to tell the IT people what you did. I pray to God you are not that person, but I have that sinking feeling that you are.

Did it official through kies for samsung, still havent jail broken my s2. It was due to be released at the start of march but didnt come out until a week or so ago
I’ve been checking for updates through the software update setting on the app but Kies is the way to go is it?
If you go through kies there should be a firmware update which is ICS, for the s2 anyway dunno about other phones
I was trying that through the Tools drop down (on my S2) on the Firmware Upgrade and Installion option but it keeps blocking me and saying the Initializing is not supported.
Is this the correct place?

Id say its too large to do through the phone. I hooked up to the lapper and did it through kies there, itll tell you theres a firmware up date available. It took me nearly 2 hours rhough
