What mobile phone do you have?
Could someone answer balloobas’ query please?

I also have a query and I would appreciate the forum’s assistance.

I currently use a HTC Desire and am with O2.

I have now taken possession of my Samsung Galaxy SII and am moving to Vodafone.

I am retaining my existing mobile phone number but I now have a new SIM card. How do I get the contacts on my current SIM card onto my new SIM card and phone?*

 • this may be a retarded question.
You backup to Google Contacts and transfer back from there.

How do I do that?

Settings. Accounts and synch and go into your gmail account there and check contacts are ticked and synch away.

I have my new phone charging with new SIM card in it.

But my old phone with the existing SIM card in it doesn’t appear to be working now.

Is that because I have the new one charging up? It’s not allowing me to make calls or to synch.

I’m baffled.

It shouldn’t be related with the switchover not scheduled until tomorrow. But power off anyway and new phone can still charge away.

I don’t understand your advice. Please clarify.

So turn off my old phone?

Leave the new one charge?

Turn the new one on when it’s fully charged?

But that will mean I have no contacts on my new phone, will it not?

You’re as well just drive over to Bandage and do it for him Rocko.

Turn off new phone and leave it charge. Synch stuff on old phone.

Have you not been reading my posts?

The new phone is turned off and charging.

The old phone now has ‘no service’ and it won’t let me make calls, send texts or synch.

I’m wondering if this is related.

Sounds like they have transferred you onto the new SIM.

Is the new phone working?

Sounds right.

At no point had Bandage told us the new phone was turned off.

Bandage, you could try this convoluted way.

On your old phone, select (I don’t know where) transfer contacts from SIM to phone.
Then put the new sim into the old phone, select transfer contacts to SIM, then move the SIM back into the new phone. It may not work if you have a lot of contacts.

Read between the lines pal.

Right what’s happened is the following…

 • I had assigned tomorrow between 8am and 10am as my network changeover date;
 • But O2 seem to have cut me off already; not sure if that was triggered by me inserting the SIM card (in the turned off new phone) and charging it - surely not?
 • So I have the old SIM card in the old phone and it has all my contacts etc but I’m unable to make calls, send texts, synch etc;
 • I have now turned on the fully charged new phone and it’s bizarrely got 18 contacts on it; doesn’t include loads of my family and pals but at least it includes TASE;
 • I can’t make calls or send texts from the new phone either - this probably ties into my selected 8am-10am network changeover for tomorrow morning.

But how can I get my contacts from the SIM card on my old phone onto my new phone? I really thought Rocko would know how to do this.

Write down all your old contacts on a piece of paper and then manually transfer them into the new phone.

Bring both phones to our luncheon engagement tomorrow.

Thinly veiled acknowledgement that your advice tonight has been shocking. I’ll give Runt’s suggestion a try in the meantime.

I’m trying to remember what I did when I last switched phones. I think I sent them by Bluetooth.

Runts advice is the best but might mean you have to do a couple of transfers as most SIM cards can only handle 250 contacts.

It’s Bandage

I completed this task successfully by importing my current SIM card contacts to my gmail account, which I’d just linked up to my new phone. The new phone was then able to grasp the contacts from the gmail account. Thanks for your help with this, Bandage. No problem, Bandage.
