What mobile phone do you have?

Does the screen light up at all?

It does. The screen is functional apart from a strip at the bottom which is the most annoying thing. I can put in my pin but I can’t hit enter. So I’m locked out of the phone due to one small non-functional but.

And the bit that isn’t functional, is it cracked?

is this way possible?

Yep

I need to get past the enter pin screen for smart switch to work.

I thought the mouse/keyboard plug in solution was a fix but no joy.

33 euro + shipping for the new front glass and bits you need to replace it.

I think it’s been said on here before, you are an excellent young man.

Whether I’d trust myself to install it though…

Might be a naive suggestion, but if it’s only a strip at the bottom that you can’t use can you not just rotate the screen so you can click enter?

Forget that, read back and see pin is to enter phone rather than an app.

The phone shop are gonna stick a screen on it, let me transfer the data, and then take their screen back and charge me 30 quid. I can live with that.

A mighty sound gesture.

The mother is set to move the father off the auld Nokia for Christmas.

She wants to buy him a smartphone. She’s not that tech savvy herself but has iPhones for the past 6/7 years.

She’ll be the one showing a 76 year old roaster how to use this phone so is she as well off just getting him an iPhone as well? They’re fairly foolproof (if expensive I know).

Or is there an easy to use smart phone out there anyone would recommend?

He’s on Vodafone ready to go for years. Vodafone probably best option still due to coverage in our area. He knows (just about) how to use the INTERNET on the PC at home. He would want it mainly for email, WhatsApp/Viber, and booking slots at the golf course.

Any recommendations welcome.

If your mother is on iPhone then go with that. The iPhone SE is a fabulous phone and can be gotten for €450 or thereabouts.

Perfect. Thanks @briantinnion

Stay away from androids, they’re only hapes of shite

The coverage will be good but the download speed will be shite…

Saw that I’m on Vodafone x speed limited of late restricted to 10mb download
and its just ok,
whereas this new deal is for 5 mb download crap really

You got it, we’ve got fantastic broadband speeds but the PAYG speeds are just ok

Still haven’t got around to pulling the trigger on 48.ie. Don’t have much to lose in that my Virgin media connection doesn’t work in Limerick so the network coverage can theoretically only improve.
