I caught a piece on Today FM earlier where they were apologising for something D’Arcy said about catholics, anyone able to clear this one up?
Has this cunt not left the country yet. He’s worse than fenwaypark
Anyone have the low down on what’s going on at Phantom? Management seem to have wielded the axe and loads of DJs have been wrapping up their shows over the past week or so. I used to enjoy their breakfast show on my commute with Richie McCormack and the wonderful Michelle Doherty but that finished up on Friday. Eamonn Fucking Fennell is presenting the breakfast show for the next 3 weeks with yer wan he usually does a show on Sundays with. It’ll be back to listening to my own tunes now. No more ‘Bandy About’.
Head of Programming (Keith Walsh) pulled a fast one to oust some staple names like Derek Byrne and Pearl. They weren’t ‘commercial’ enough. He told them he needed to trim his budget but word got out that at the same time he signed a few new ad deals worth €160k so there is a lot of bad blood. Richie McCormack took a sports job in 98FM and Michelle Doherty is gone. So Walsh is going to do a breakfast show with a bloke called Joe from iradio (muldoons that think they’re funny FFS).
There’s talk of buying in BBC6 programming to covere weekends although Stadium rock will still be on both days. Station gone to shite now - it’s like Spin FM now.
Is Keith the seriously unfunny fucker that used to fill in for Richie on the morning show when Richie was on holidays? I rarely listen to radio bar Phantom and a tiny bit of Off The Ball. It’s ruined now. Ruined.
McCormack and Doherty were excellent, I thought. Funny without straying into annoying/wacky territory and having the audience interaction the breakfast shift seems to demand without being cringey either. Played some great tunes too.
Yep that’s him. Woeful. I’d safely say that Pearl’s sunday Morning Comedown show was one of the best things on Phantom,.
She made a crack yesterday saying “Coming up next we have Kings of Leon and Florence…no no wait that’s next week.”
BBC digital 6 isn’t bad but how accessible is it.
Thank you, I’d been wondering what the hell was going on and there seemed to be very little info given out on air, so naturally I feared the worst.
I thoroughly enjoyed what turned out to be her last show yesterday, along with Dee’s Phantom Tunes
If they’re heading down the FM104 - 98FM - Spin route you’d have to wonder how long they’ll last, as they’ll be neither alternative nor mainstream enough to satisfy either audience.
One of Derek Byrne’s last songs on his 11pm - 1am show last night was Jackson Frank’s Blues Run The Game. A wonderful little ditty indeed covered by many artists. I rarely listened to Pearl as it never usually occurs to me to listen to radio in the morning at weekends but there’s been a massive twitter reaction to her show finishing alright.
BBC 6 is pretty good and worth listening to.
The South Wind Blows with Philip King from 9-10pm on Sundays on Radio 1 is always worth listening to, which is what I’m doing now.
Great call Sidney, really sets the mood and a good variety of tunes. I’ve been listening to a lot of the archived shows recently on rte.ie, very mellow music.
The Rolling Wave with Peter Browne after it plays some excellent traditional music.
A superb hour and 50 minutes of music between the two programmes.
I must say that the History Show on Newstalk on Sunday night is generally a great show. I am usually in the car when it is on on a long drive. Tonight was a great show with pieces on the Lockout, Attila the Hun and the war of the Roses. I often feel that I am a more intelligent man just for listening to it.

As Scullion’s one time biggest fan I can confirm that Philip King is a great guy.
Not sure that you’d want to bother Fagan, but surprisingly there is an excellent radio show here in the antipodean hellhole, Late Night Live, with a many and varied topic list and some very interesting guests and discussions. They’ve just celebrated 20 years of the show and have some of the highlights here, some good stuff:
Does anyone listen to 2fm anymore? Can’t remember the last time I listened to that station.
Classic hits 4fm is the job!
The sports programme after 7 pm is good. So far, so good it hasn’t been infiltrated by Joanne and Evanne and horror of horrors Jackie (Jacqui??).
Newstalk is gradually going downhill.
Kelly-Anne Byrne on Phantom from 6-10 on Saturdays is the job, especially on a sunny early summer evening like this with a few beers and a Champions League final coming up. Funky shit.
