That’ll come as quite a shock to those who are playing it
Might be a choice they make. I’ve not seen homophobia in GAA but it’s probably worthy of some research to see why gay men drop out of GAA or sport in general.
I’d imagine ladies Gaelic football and camogie is quite open to gay women.
Didn’t Oliver have an on street barney with Paul Galvin before?
David Gough is doing his bit to ‘raise awareness’ whatever that means
The GPA have done a great job to encourage openess and inclusion. Donal og and David gough are two notable examples in the men’s game. There are plenty in the women’s. An awful ill-informed comment there
He said Donal Og was the only male GAA player to come out.
What about Donal Og’s brother.
Oliver the misogynist doesn’t count ladies football as Gaa it seems.
Or count gay women as gay.
Steady on @Juhniallio and @TheUlteriorMotive , he did say that more female GAA players had come out and at the end he mentioned Donal Ogs brother.
Loads of gay footballers in Monaghan
Fair enough.
I’d say there’s a fair few lads playing who are gay but have for whatever reason not decided to publicly come out. Didn’t Vincent’s AI winning speech cause a stir when players partners were mentioned.
I’d imagine a high profile male player coming out as gay would be a good thing alright. You can bash GAA for lots of things but they’ve made great efforts in diversity and inclusion down to having kids with special needs at cul camps and in Go Games as far as possible
As if Callan has never watched Cathal McCarron in action? Don’t mean in Croker either
I say theres more but would it be as much as a big deal anymore? Dont think people care what someone’s sexuality is if they are knocking over points for fun. I think we have gotten to that point now where people wouldn’t really bat an eyelid as its accepted as the norm for someone to be gay in this country. I might be wrong on this.
You’re right, no-one would give a shit.
Probably easy to say as a straight man, homophobia is still a huge issue in our society, the GAA is still a jock culture in most areas, I’d say it’s a difficult decision to make, Donal Og is probably one of the strongest GAA players in recent years in a mental sense
He is sitting on this one for a while. Even when they are trying to shake it up, RTE are still very one paced.
It will happen and the player will be accepted completely as Donal Og was.
Poor choice of words on my part! Ah I think it’s a bit unfair, it’s a societal issue. I think the NFL have had a gay player, but the Premier League have only had Hitzelsperger who was long retired when he came out.
Id say the GAA are better placed than most on this, the lads and girls are there now, their teammates know, it’s just not public, probably because players are fearing the absolute media circus more than the reaction of any clubmate or county team player they play with.
Lol
The whitest of all sports is making great efforts
