Listen to radio na gaeltachta driving home a lot now. Warrior music. My drive takes me past the British Ambassador residence. Some days I am seething.
Stadium Rock had potential. Problem was it didn’t have enough good updates on matches and at the same time was hamstrung by the station’s music policy. So it was neither a good sports show nor a good music show. If Richie had been given free reign to play what he wanted and interspersed it with proper updates on the football (they never gave scores outside of EPL games, for shame), it could be a good show. There’s only so much of Gilette Soccer Saturday I can watch without getting bored.
So in other words it didn’t work because the format was shit.
Problem was it gave updates in first place. I know I’m not alone in tuning out cause of this. If I wanted sports updates on Saturday afternoon then I’d choose Newstalk/Today Fm/Rte Radio One/Five Live/Radio Ulster/Talk Sport.
I would have said: not executed properly.
Well I want more than sports updates. A half hour of one of those sports shows and I’m bored. And if the lady is around the house than forget about it. Stadium Rock could’ve been a happy medium. But, as I said, the music and the updates were both shite, despite Richie being a very personable sounding bloke.
Radio Nova would give you all of this.
I’ve probably quoted the wrong post but you get what I mean thraw. Radio Nova on a Sat afternoon gets the mix just right.

You get the feeling from John Creedon that he values the medium of radio. No gimmicks. Old school.
