Whats the best Irish radio station to listen to?

+1

I particularly love the banter between Marty and the AA road watch women.
Its the only one I listen to anymore.

Will Pod-casting on the go kill daytime radio eventually?
It’s the only station on in my car too. My three year old is a big fan and insists on us listening to “melody” (regular CBeebies viewers will be aware of Melody) all the time - she objects in the strongest possible terms to any talking on the radio

Sindo was always anti SF but its only got really bad on Newstalk since they have become a threat to FG. Before that Newstalk was just bland radio but something to flick on during some boring story on Morning Ireland or Joe Duffy ! Drivetime is hit or miss, I can’t take to Mary Wilson at all.

She’s not up against stiff opposition though, Hook is an awful fucking cunt and Cooper isn’t far off that on Today FM. I actually don’t mind listening to Newstalk when the cunt is away with Ingrid aka in the hospital with gout. Shane Coleman is the best of a bad lot when his on.

Newstalk is not pro fg at all. They are anti everything. Doesnt matter what. The two morning fuckwits like to consider themselves as ‘journalists asking hard questions’ but they are just pissing and moaning non stop. Hook is an insane old shitbox who has an appalling grasp of current affairs.
What they are is probusiness and pro private sector for all news output.

Ivan Yates FG / George Hook admits he’s FG / Sarah Carey FG… Its a pro FG station. As I said it wasn’t always but it is now.

Nova is the best station around. A pity its not nationwide. Pat Courtney is a stone cold legend.

Surprise, Surprise, someone mentions Yatesy and Mac comes running

It set the alert button off sure

Raidió na Life can be very good sometimes. No idea what time the decent shows are on but you get some excellent music on that some evening and at weekends.

That’s an informative post, mate. You should contribute more to the forum here.

I like nova but cant take to pat courtney at all.

Did they bump off joan lea so they could have a married couple in the morning?

Yates -ex FG who loves nothing more than berating them. He has no grá for the governmnet.
Hook - An insane old curmudgeonly fuckwit. He loves giving out about everything and has no idea where his own political allegiances lie, so there’s no way you can.

The station has a policy of being contrary. That’s where their market is.

Fond memories of listening to the death notices on Midwest .

Its friday… Marty just played Matt Munro - from Russia with love.

He is now going through some emails the listeners have sent in. He is reading spam and all. David Woo from Shanghai got a mention.

Hook is FG but he’s like a FG romantic, in love with the Michael Collins party of the distant past that doesn’t exist anymore.
As you said, Yates gives his former insider spiel making out like he’s some sort of political mastermind and everyone else is doing it wrong.

Both are relatively critical of the current government from my experience, but quick to point out that no one else is better.

AS for being anti SF, everyone is. Media, Upper/Middle Class, business etc are all against them. They really are a party of the proletariat.
They seem to have tapped into a relatively unused section of the voting public. It’s been badly needed to have a proper “workers party” it’s a role Labour never really filled. Their challenge will be in maintaining that base while also broadening it. I’ve yet to see them come out with a proper economic policy, bar tax the rich, which really is more of a PR exercise than something of substance.

Agree on all that except the last bit. They have had some very solid proposals an have been the only party to break with consensus on big issues, three of which I think they have called right/I agree with were: burn the bondholders, don’t sign up to the ESM (still think we’d have been in a superior negotiating position if we hadn’t done this), introduce a third rate of tax. On the flipside they come off a bit too euro sceptic sometimes.

France introduced a wealth tax and it has been largely disastrous.
Its too easy for the rich to just leave. If you are a CEO you can base yourself out of anywhere really.
It hurts Foreign investment as well.

So the perceived wisdom goes. I’m not convinced.
